Fugly annoying Acura Key Fob
It scratches too easily and looks rather cheap, especially for a "luxury" division automobile. I want to use the other one, but I'm afraid that after another 3 months, it's going to look as bad as the first.
It seems that getting a remote starter or alternative alarm system are the only options for replacing these keys/fobs.
Any ideas?

If you have the Money, go for the Aftermarket alarm, Viper alarms completly kick the acura alarm systems ass, not only w/ motion alarms, My TSX got hit and ran in a parking lot, alarm never made a sound... but they are more efficent, and Have the beep noise rather then the honk (04 TSX)... Id do it but I really cant afford one

Mine is all scratched. The VW one is so cool.
I am also very pissed that I can't lock the car with the FOB when a door is open (have a child in a infant seat and you will understand).

While on the train of complaining about the keyfob, I find that the relative sizes of the buttons are poorly done. I have to search for the unlock button as it does not seem to be logically laid out. this may just be me, but I find it a bit annoying.

edit: OK, I guess if you are dumb enough to open the drivers side door, then lock the door via the FOB and and leave the keys in the ignition. But

It is convenient and nifty, but my VW one has a range of about 13 inches
I can unlock my TSX's doors from outer space, but the fob is cheap and ugly. Life is a series of compromises

I dunno why they didn't pass on or use the similar fob the Accord uses. Also, I am not really a fan of laser cut keys....but I have to agree that VW, Audi, and Mercedes Benz have the keys.

They probably should have gone the other way around, honestly. I don't mind the key fob, since most people don't see my keys until they're in the car and by then, they're too busy admiring the interior to notice the keys.
I would really like to see the keyless-go function applied to the entire Acura line-up by 2007 so I can have it on my next car.

Perhaps I'll Zaino a few layers of Z2 on the fob and wait till I get a German car.
Though with Boxing Day just around the corner .... I will see what the Viper or similar systems have to offer.

I have a friend with a 4 year old Jetta and her Key is starting to wear out. VW wants $200 for a new one. I'd rather not have that issue. As far as the Lexus keys with the buttons built into the black portion at the top, those things become useless if you ever get an aftermarket alarm.
As long as we're going with wishlists, I'd love to have the damn keyfob built into my cell phone. But that's never going to happen.

Man, what a bitch session going on in here.
Who the hell has to look at the fob to know where the buttons are?? It shouldnt take you more then a week to get used to where THREE buttons are.
Just get one of these covers for the fob, located at the bottom

I think everyone here agrees [except for you] that Acura cut one particular corner that we see and use everyday. Facts are facts ... I just wanted to know if there are any aftermarket alternatives.
Though I am glad I didn't get the S40. That is one huge fugly key fob that you may as well stick up your butt than keep in your pocket.
