Floormats

So I was vacuuming my car out for the first time today and when I removed the floor mats I noticed something strange. Only the front drivers mat and the rear passenger side mat have that little hole that slides over the hook to keep the mat from moving around. Whats up with that? Why only those two and not the others?

It has to do with safety, and others will probably tell you to read the manual. For obvious reasons, one wouldn't want the driver's floormat sliding around, or getting stuck on the pedals. As for the rear passenger floormat...it is there to prevent the weight sensor under the front passenger seat from getting a bad reading, which could affect the deployment of the passenger airbag.
