First Oil Change
I did my first oil changed yesterday...in 1 month and 5 days i put on 2600 miles on
my CG/05/Nav/5Auto. I just love this car, my mileage was at 32.6 miles on the
freeway cruising at 70 mph. The oil came out was so dirty i can not believe it.
I had my car on a lift at Travis AFB Auto hobby shop and did all the self inspection,
and changed the oil and filter...man talk about son of a gun trying to
remove the oil filter by first taking off the passenger wheel and turn it to the right,
so you have some room to manuever. Then i just about to remove the whole
panel underneath the oil pan...i know that you can open that little compartment
right under neath the bolt drain but the way the oil drain out it might splatter all
over the cover so i have to fold the panel down a little bit so the oil catcher can
get underneath to get all that oil coming down. On the dip stick it reads just a
little bit above the low mark...so i know the car is burning oil during the break-in
phase...it took about 4.5 quarts of oil to fill it....other than that this car is great...
hopefully i dont have to change oil again until the next 5000miles...

Wait till 3000, you dont need to change your oil after 1k miles.

I currently have 4700 miles on the original oil, with one quart added during the first 2000 miles. GTX has a new "First Start" blend that I plan to use when I get the oil changed. While it is not much of an indication of anything, the original oil appears rather clear after 4700 miles (from the dipstick).
I might switch to using Mobile 1 at my second oil change -- probably around 10,000 miles, . Or, I might wait until the warranty has elapsed so that I can extend my change intervals. If I recall correctly, the Mobile 1 bottles, at one time, stated to change the oil every 25000 miles or one year. The new bottles make no such statement -- perhaps because many of the new engines are turbo charged and there are associated liability issues.

Anyway, I don't think I'd go 25000 miles on ANY oil regardless of what the manufacturer may claim. It's just too big of a risk to take in order to save a relatively small amount of money.
Not sure if you guys have already seen this but there's a really interesting site looking into Mobil 1 and Amsoil synthetic oil longevity here:

The "break-in" oil from the factory has extra moly in it to help the rings seat. This is why the manual states to not do the first oil change until 5000 miles.

This long term test shows that Amsoil viscosity increases
with age. This dangerous to our motors.
It also shows that in Mobil 1, metals increased in new oil in first 1k miles and then
stopped increasing, meaning most wear on new oil. Amsoil showed
less metals and agrees with amsoil claims. But amsoil does not show aged oil viscosity results in their advertising.
According to this test there is no reason to change mobil 1 for 10k miles,
but it would be best with filter change between.
To me mobil 1 blackens sooner than other oils. The mobil blend stays
cleaner for me, this doesn't mean it's better. A new mobil 1 came out is
labeled for extended use, it may be better. I have heard north american
mobil 1 is not as good as european, maybe they are upgrading our product.
I am getting an oil test with mobil blend at 3500 miles and then will do one with
the new extended life mobil 1 and decide if I should do sythethetic
blend at frequent change, or the new mobil 1 at extended change ( with
filter change in between).
It will mostly depend on metals at 3500 miles. If synthetic blend is less
wear I will favor that at frequent interval over mobil 1.

OK just bought my TSX and only have 700 miles on it so oil change is not a concern right now. I will most likely use synthetic and change oil every 10k.
I also own a 98 F-150 V-8 that I bought new and monitored the oil and changes closely since day 1. I now only change the oil every 20K with synthetic. I check the oil each and every time to make sure there are no problems. Some of you may freak out about the length between oil changes, but it has run fine since day 1. 126,000 miles and oil changes every 12000-20000 miles. Cars are built better these days.
The days of changing the oil in your 1979 Camero w/350 every 3000 miles are over.
Just imagine if every one changed their oil every 2500 miles instead of every 5000-10000 ...... we would have to go and take over the next middle eastern country for their oil a little bit sooner than we will anyway.
Not to mention how much faster we will kill Mother nature!
Squeez as much as you can out the oil you do use before you dispose of it.
