First Impressions- Kia Rio vs. TSX
My TSX is in the shop getting a dent repaired, and my rental car is a Kia Rio, so for anyone thinking about trading up from the TSX, here are my first impressions:
1. Garage fit- the Rio fits much better in my garage than the TSX.
2. Gas- Rio takes regular gas, and a lot less than the TSX- $5 worth of regular was almost half a tank!
3. Price- for the price of a TSX with all seasons, you could get 2 Rios- one with summer tires, and one with winter tires- much easier than swapping wheels
4. DIY- instead of using a floor jack to lift the car to get under it, you can get a few buddies over to just flip the car over on the lawn, providing easy access to the undercarriage- this is also a good way to store the unused winter/summer car to keep the weight off the suspension and tires
5. Performance, the 0-60 time of the Rio is exactly the same as the TSX assuming both are dropped off a cliff and fall with the acceleration of gravity.
6. Handling- also same as the TSX in the above cliff-drop test
7. Braking- Public roads aren't exactly the best place to test worst-case braking conditions, but i suspect that both the TSX and the Rio would have similar stopping times upon collision with a solid brick wall.
8. Features- The Rio has tons of energy-saving features including manual door locks, manual windows, and a solid roof to prevent solar heating during the summer through a moonroof.
9. Security- The security system on the Rio is much better than the TSX. Featured prominently on the trunk is a "Kia Rio" badge which ensures that any would-be car thieves will walk right by rather than waste time trying to break into a car that's worth just a bit more than the Navi screen on the shiny TSX across the street.
10. Style- Nothing says "I'm cool" like driving a Rio- nobody accuses you of overcompensating for something, or needing a car to impress the ladies... Only a real man would be seen behind the wheel of this classy POS.
That's all for now, unfortunately i only have another day or 2 with my new love until i'm back in my expensive luxury boat- but if i find any other cool features, i'll make sure to post them.

I give this thread a 9.5/10.
But in all seriousness, if this is a new 06+ Rio, its not that bad a car when compared to others in its class. Its basically a re-badged Accent.

Couple years ago when the POS 320i loaner was broken down, my bimmer dealer got me a kia rio rental instead. First I was very upset but after driven that little realibale Korean for 2 days, I give my bimmer dealer a thumb up for having a better car as a loaner than my own car ... I really said that loud in front of the service advisor and I made sure all their customers heard how I praise the service
And seriously I find the Rio has way better build quality, better interior material, smoother engine & faster throttle response than the crappy low end BMW.

Awesome post.
Sometimes I wonder if people actually read before posting a reply. Are you serious when you laugh at someone for comparing a TSX and a Kia Rio and suggesting a better comparison? I seriously hope not...

So this thread made me LOL in class ... NICE! Dude, I totally feel you on the Rio! We should all get one ... just to "drop it off a cliff and see if it lands on its all fours!". All jokes aside though, Kia has come a loooooong way. I still remember the lil SUV that barely could - the 1st generation Sportage. It was functional and reliable even though it was as plain as Matzo. And yea, the Rio most def kicks the shite out of the Aveo ... which is ALSO Korean.
