Factory Alarm Questions

I searched, but I can't seem to find any topic on this.

I was wondering how, if there was an option to disable the alarm? Don't flame me!

By the way, should the alarm be activated when I open the doors by manually unlocking it. The other day I had the windows rolled down and locked it with the fob. I reached into the car and unlocked the driver door but the alarm didn't go off. wtf? is this how it suppose to work?

Thanks guys!

The arm is ARMED by locking with the remote or the key, or (I believe) by locking the door while open and then closing it. (Don't have the car handy to check, but this is standard OE alarm procedure).

It's DISARMED by unlocking with the key or the remote. If you reach through the window and unlock by hand on the inside, the alarm should assume that you may have just broken the window in order to be able to reach in.

But... there is a 15S time delay on the alarm after arming (page 130-6 of the Electrical T-shoot manual). How long did you wait between locking with the remote and unlocking by hand?

Since the anti-theft function is built into the multiplex controller, there is probably no way to disable it.

Is it possible that the car detects that the windows are down and it does not arm the alarm when you lock the door in that case?

i would hope not that would defeat part of the purpose of having an alarm.

I don't think so. It should still arm with the windows down.

Nope. I know for a fact because I've had my friends trigger my alarm this way.

It happened to me first day I brought my TSX home... I locked the doors with my windows down, I used the remote. Then I had the urge to sit in it...hehe...so I unlocked the car by reaching in and pulling the lock up... The ALARM WENT OFF!!!
It went off for a good 2 minutes because I panicked and didn't know how to stop it...all my neighbors were looking...I kept hitting the "LOCK" button on the remote instead of the "UNLOCK" button to disarm it...but yea...It was embarassing...but I found out that my alarm worked...hehe

That's one way to announce to the neighborhood that you have a new car. And, that it has an alarm.

I can't tell you how many bluehairs in parking lots have stood panicking in front of their flashing, honking Oldsmobuick until I walked over, took the keys from their knarled hands, and unlocked the door with them.
