Extra dealer options after purchase
Extra dealer options after purchase
We finally closed on the deal for a silver/ebony auto with navi.
Now I hav eto decide on some of additional options offerred by the dealer. I think we will take the extended service (Preferred Plus), but I was wondering if any of them are any good & worth the price they are charging:
1. Exterior interior protection package (ResistAll) for about $500
2. Ding Free (unlimited for 5 years) for about $500
3. Upgraded alarm (Automate AM1) for about $500
You get a new starter kill & shock sensor
I am thinking the alarm is not really needed because TSX already comes with an immobalizer.
I am searching the forum right now to see if I can find more info on these topics.
I will summarize what I find later.
TIA

I found some references by doing the search. Hope you guys find them useful.
The conclusion seems to be that none of these options are worth the money because you can find equivalent alternatives cheaper.

Hey,
When i picked up my G35, they tried to sell me that also. I dug a little further and found that you may not be buying anything at all... Just insurance. All the cars come with a protective coating on them already from the a manufacturer, a chemical bond that acts with the paint to protect it from acid rain, love bugs etc. All you are buying for the $500, is insurance that it will work.
Example:
If you do not get the $500 Insurance and you have paint damage from Acid rain, you go to the body shop and pay to have someone either wet sand or professionaly buff it out.
With the Insurance, you go back to the dealer and they will get it out for you at no charge. Wet sand, buff, or repaint the part that is affected.
I think that also covers any damage to the seats or interion cloth.
That was my take on the whole thing. I could be wrong.

Ohh.. by the way, I did not opt for the protection.

My warranty is for 5 years, and "protects against weather induced fading, loss of gloss, permanent hard water etching, industrial fallout, bird droppings, tree sap, and acid rain." BTW, the sealant sucks, as it lasted for perhaps 1 month. Seeing that my car definitely has several areas of water etching, I might take it to the dealer and have them look at it.
Overall, definitely not worth getting...Unless of course they give me a new paint job. I'm dreaming of course, as they would probably only fix the problem areas, and not the hundreds of paint chips I have.

so i suggest lo jack.....my rational is if you have alarm system if its taken its gone. and by the tmie you find your car sitting on a pile of brick, you dont want the car. but u have to wait to see if insurance company will total the car.; if fix it. but nobody want to fix it once its stripped. but with lo jack. almost every police use it... and we often get car back same or next day with minimal damage.. most often times just the gas suspect used to joy ride.. so stick with factory alarm and get lo jack is what i would do...

Plates in a month? Maybe in the states. Here in BC, the insurance agents come with plates in hand for you to choose from. No dealing with temp papers, unless you want vanity plates or something.
Hmm, some of my favourite/least favourite features?
Let's start with the favourites. In this weather, I'm really starting to like the butt/back toasters (heated seats). I just use them long enough to warm up the coooold leather faster than my own butt can. I've been using the aux input and it's great. Haven't really been using CDs much since I got the car.
Least favourite? I really wish the aux input was more than just an aux input and I could control my mp3 player through the wheel-mounted controls. And I want to avoid buying an ipod if at all possible.
And more importantly, I'd like to see the track info on the stereo display (or MID!). I'd also really love to have the stereo turn on automatically when an attached player is turned on (and the aux input receives an audio signal). THAT would make it SOOO much more convenient.
Minor annoyances. The overhead lights are seriously bright. I may have to do the blue LED conversion to dim them a little.
Oh, and my absolute favourite feature: the 6speed.

Also, the immobilizer system ensures that without the transponder signal from the key, the vehicle cannot be started.
