Every used TSX I've driven has a shimmy in the steering wheel...

Is this a common problem? A few have also had a noticeable brake shudder. I hate it when my cars do this. Anyone else fighting these issues or have I just run into a bunch of poorly maintained cars? Is balancing included in the warranty coverage?
Thanks!

Were these cars you drove new or used?

My brakes started vibrating a little while ago. I replaced the rotors & pads with Power Slot rotors & Hawk pads and I have no more vibration or shimmy. This was at about 28,800 miles. I've now got just under 30k.

Did you replace just the front or all 4?

What tires are on these cars? Some tires (like my Avon Tyres Tech M550s) will flatspot if the car is parked long enough, causing slight steering shimmy until the tires warm up again (usually takes me about 5 minutes of highway driving).

I see that now, but I could swear it wasn't there when I first read it.

Anyway, I replaced all four.

They all had Michelin HXM4 or something like that. All the cars had around 12-20K miles on them.

Well the MXM4 is the stock tire which should not (i don't know for sure as I only had them for 1 day) flatspot, so that's not it. If you buy a T, go to a good tire shop with a Hunter Road Force balancing machine and get all four tires balanced. FWIW I never have any steering shimmy in my car after the flatspots come out (5 minutes or so into the drive).

Well I'm close to buying one pending a balance and another test drive. It hink he's taking it to an ACura dealer though since he believes they'll do it under warranty. Do the Acura dealers have Roadforce balancing?

no clue. wheel balancing will not likely be covered under warranty though.

its the brakes......., the rotors warp easily. Especially if your drive your car hard and use the brakes alot. I just had mine replaced / resurfaced under waranty......., but I think I can already feel it happening again........ gonna have to bring it back in and tell them that this isnt going to work. I think the brakes are undersized IMO.

^^ Some dealers will cover it if you say they that you're getting a lot of weird vibrations, etc. If you buy used and end up with the brake shuder, I would recommend getting some new aftermarket rotors such as the RacingBrake or Brembo blanks. A lot of the people running the OEM rotors, including myself, have gotten the shudder that you're talking about.

Me too. Shuddering is happening. 33K miles and it seems to be getting worse! Only really noticed it at around 28k or so.

Is it a buildup of crud on the pads/rotors or is it truly warped rotors?

Got mine repaired @ 40Kmiles under warranty as well. Basically walked in and TOLD THEM the wheel shimmies when I brake so the front rotors are warped. then I went on to request a 4th gen TL for a loaner because I think I want to upgrade. Even though I never wanted to upgrade, it put that "future customer" bug in their ear so they went the extra mile to show me how great the Acura warranty was. It resulted in free first front front brakes for me. They turned the rotors and gave me new pads up front. Cha ching!
