Engine Coolant

Quick question.

As I was cleaning the engine bay of my TSX, I noticed that my engine coolant (the blue fluid) is almost as the MIN level.

From what I know, I need to use an ethylene glycol anti-freeze with the proper mixture ratio of 50% anti-freeze and 50% distilled water.

Should I just take it to a local shop and ask them to fill it up? Or should I goto any Acura service shops and ask them to fill it up to the MAX? Or should I just do it myself and not worry too much about it?

TIA.

Check the level just after driving, when the engine is still warm/hot. If it's still at MIN, add to halfway.

This is about the easiest DIY there is - if you can't pour a little anti-freeze and water into a bottle under the hood you have no business opening it in the first place.

How much would you expect to pay for that service ?
I asked here & elsewhere before , Honda coolant is recommended. 50/50 ready to use, a bit pricy - $14

PS: I think the coolant dealer put in was also blue in color - but Honda coolant is a pleasant GREEN color Hmmm maybe those bastards used the cheap shiet.

i would wait til oil change and let dealer to top it off, or get the fluid from dealer. there are different compound of coolant and i think Honda recommend a speific type. i can't remember it. there is some serious compatability issue with materials being used in the cooling system and different coolant. there was some dispute between GM and Honda when Honda supply v6 engine for Saturn SUV; GM uses a coolant compound that is not recommend by Honda. i would stick AFT, steerning, and coolant cluid with Hondas'. my .02

Don't think you should wait any longer, since the weather is getting colder, and the coolant is at the "minimum" level. Since there is Honda pre-mixed coolant available, even though it is a bit expensive, you could probably buy it off from the shelf and fill the coolant yourself.

$14 for a jar?? wow, that's a bit pricy. few month ago i saw a dealer's special coolant flush for $49 CDN. i think dealer will top it off for you if you just do a oil change, it's much cheaper!! hehe
i was about to install the engine block heater myself, save $250 cnd myself. wondering can i recycle the coolant?

But whether they use genuine Honda coolant is up in the air even if thet're nice enough to
notice the level is low.

Dude make sure you report back how the heater installation goes.
