Engine break-in in one trip?

I just got my build date, I ordered it on 6/26 and the estimated build date is 7/29 - then 3-4 wks later it is supposed to arrive at my dealer - Around when it arrives at the end of August I need to drive to Ohio, which just happens to be about 600 miles one way. What is the best way to break in the engine with highway driving? I know you need to vary the speed and highway driving seems like it may not be the best choice for that? Does it specify not to go over 55 too? Maybe i'll just have to wait till after that trip to take delivery.

I would wait untill after you trip to take delivery. A highway trip is a bad way to break it in, mainly because you can't vary the rpms, and dont use all the gears. You want some stop and go traffic for break-in, use all the gears, move around the rpm range.

As for going over 55, i personally dont think this is an issue and i had no problem going over 55, even as high as 80 during my break in period. As long as my revs were kept at a decent level i didnt worry about it. The only caveat to this is that when going fast, be sure you wont need to brake hard.

My best suggestion (assuming you do NEED to make this trip in your TSX at that time) is to make the trip, but don't drive on the highway. I know it sounds stupid and it will most definitely make your trip longer than it should be, but it'll be best for your engine in the long run. Try and drive it as much as possible before you leave, though. Long trips in general (highway or not) aren't great for new engines. It's ok, just not great. The more miles you have to start with, the better off you'll be.

I do need to make the trip - sounds like if it comes down to getting the TSX right before the trip, i'll have to hold off on delivery till after i'm back.

Yeah. I thought you might have been moving or something like that. If it's just a trip that you're coming back from, I'd try just renting a car. This may or may not be cost-effective depending on the number of days you'll be out, but most places will allow you unlimited miles. Something to think about.

Fellas,

What if the car already has 220-240 miles on it before a highway trip? I'm planning on a road trip on Thursday, but I'll have at least that many miles on it by then. Does that make it any better? I checked the manual and it said nothing about highway driving.

Just relax and enjoy your car. Most service techs say this car doesn't need to be broken in anyway. Just use common sense and enjoy your car. No need for a heart attack or anything

I'm sure you're right Jason. All the replies to the question above made me think twice though.
