ebrake and snow?
Hey I got a question for all of you. Is it bad when i am driving a car to use the e-brake in turns, once I feel or see my rear end sway out?
Its like making a right turn I begin to see that my rear end is swaying out left at slow speeds, I have a habit to hold the e-brake button and pull then release to give it a slight pause in swaying out too much.
Is there any harm in doing that or danger? A person mentioned to accelerated more once your slipping but if its snow or slush wouldn't that be useless if traction is somewhat lost?
Any tips or pointers, the east coast recently had some snow and today was sure a pain in almost spinning out.

Do me a big favor though, Be Careful where u do it, make sure u have the room, ur not near any curbs or something thats gonna fuck up ur car... Turn away from the slide to get it to drift, ect... Just do it right, and since ur in the snow u shouldnt have any problems... Have fun
Im hoping the snows still gonna be good when I get home from School Next Week

Well the point is I feel like i'm slipping in slush or snow that the vsa would not save me... just a paranoid feeling, i'm not locking the ebrakei'm pulling on it and as soon as a millisecond pause happens i release it.. it seems to work fine so far...
Its like Hold ebrake button pull up then down...
it seems to keep my end from sliding out (rear axel) , but I don't know I could be wrong heh. It more important my rear always slides out... and usually I just feel paranoid about it.
A meet does sound nice haha =P Jones beach?

oh no, pulling the E-brake wont stop u from slipping, as you can see from my pictures it makes it slip out even more.... Id recomend finding a parking lot , and doing what I did, u learn how to control the car if it slips out, and helps u learn when the cars gonna slip, I think I do a better job driving in the snow from this, and prob wont slip out as easy, as someone who hasnt experemented

Alrighty Thanks for the responses, I guess its just something I thought worked haha..
Yea I took the car out in a parking lot to see how it does in long turns and short turns, it handles pretty well
Being I came from a 92 toyota camry... no abs (malfunctioned)
and 90% time driving the extra car in my family Honda Oddyssey 2000..
So imagine how bad the big van slips.. haha, but I've got the hang of it.. although the Tsx i'm more worried that one these big snow days i'm going to lose it.
Like my friends taurus 85 poor kiddo 4k insurance becasue he is paying it solo due to stingy parents do not want him to drive.

Situation was clear day, he was being chased around my block by one of our pals and missed a Stop sign and made a hard and fast right..
No anti locks and just went straight into the curb.
Something I don't want to do

Do not pull the parking brake in a turn. The VSA can apply the brakes to whatever tire is slipping so there is no way you could do a better job than it by pulling parking brake. Plus, cars have been without VSA for years and no one ever pulls their parking brake. This is a FWD car so if the back end is stepping out, maybe you should brake before the turn. Or go slower. Going to an empty parking lot after a snow is a great to see how the car handles and how far you can push it and how VSA reponds.

Plus brakes is not what you want to be on if you're rear end is sliding. You want to be on the GAS (especially in a front wheel drive car). Steer opposite and let VSA handle the rest.
lcrazy, once again go find a parking lot, and purposly spin out the back end using the E-brake, then turn the other way and give it gas, ull really learn alot about how the car controls, lol if u want Ill show ya myself.... Finally comming back to long Island this weekend, And belive me if theres still any good parking lots, Ill be doin E-brake Turns
haha. i live in canada. ill see more snow in one winter than most places in 2 combined. which has lead to a whole lot of ebraking.
one thing, never do it on traffic filled roads, city roads, etc. i do it where i know a car wont be coming at me if you misjudge. residential areas, parking lots, familiar spots.
i push the button naturally when pulling the brake. so you turn, pump the break till the back end throws out a little, then release the brake and adjust steering. once your good, you will naturall be pumping the ebrake and gas peddle in a familiar pattern and will be quite percise. something you have to keep in mind is that no surfaces are alike. so one corner may be powder, and you hard brake and gas alot, the next could be ice where you BARELY brake, or you spin out.
on a realistic scale, the ebraking is for fun. if you want control in winter, leave VSA on, brake early, and drive like a normal old car in crappy conditions, there is nothin to it.
