Question "Easter Eggs"?

I know you can roll the windows down by holding the unlock button on the fob, and you can self-cancel the headlights by leaving them on before you lock the car with the fob.

What other cool things can you do?

You can slide the key into a little slot in the door, twist it a little, and unlock the door.

You can disable the exterior push button trunk latch with a little switch in the upper lefthand corner of the glove box.

If you leave the lights on and lock up the car they will self extinguish within 10-15 seconds I believe. When you then come back out and restart the car the lights automatically pop on.

I believe the trunk switch is disabled through the key slot next to the trunk remote release. You can disable the rear door locks by sliding a switch on the inside of the door. Then the rear doors can only be opened from the outside I believe.

All four windows also roll down by sticking the key in the door and keeping it turned (I think). But why doesn't Acura make a way to roll all 4 windows UP??? Or have I not discovered that yet?

In case you or someone gets locked inside the trunk, there's a latch to open the trunk from the inside. Also the yellow cord in the trunk releases the back seat.

Here's another... the doors will re-lock if you don't enter the car within 30 seconds after using the remote. Supposed to be a safety feature.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but you CAN do it, supposedly, by sticking the key in the driver door lock, and turning it counter-clockwise TWICE -- i.e. turn it once, release it, then turn it again and hold; the windows will then go up as far as you want (they keep going up as long as you hold the key in that position, they stop going up if you release it before they're all the way up).

Aren't you glad you asked?

cruise control

"discovered" this feature during a road trip from the bay area to san diego. if cruise control is on, you can increment your speed by 1 mph each time you click the "accelerate" button. the same goes with reducing speed with the "decelerate" button. i found it pretty convenient to slow down and speed up using this method. i guess i'm just anal about my speed when i'm on cruise control. i have to cruise at speeds divisible by 5.

Cool feature -- didn't know about that!

But, you really should try 77 some time. Yeah, it's not divisible by 5, but it's a pretty cool speed for some roads, depending on mood!

One of my most pleasant drives ever was straight across Ohio, 77 all the way.
But of course that was a Chevy Nova......

lol... i really wanted to understand what you meant by "pretty cool speed for some roads, depending on mood", but it just made me laugh the more i thought about it.

once drove from california to new york in a ford escort... no cruise control... wasn't one of my more pleasant drives...

Clarification on the lights automatically shutting off....

Its independent of whether or not you lock the car or use the remote. I was shocked when I found that out... and happy.

One odd feature, I think already described was that you can not use the button on the trunk to open it unless you have unlocked all the doors. That one surprised me too.

Yeah, but that only works from the outside. How do I close all 4 windows from the inside (besides flipping all 4 levers). Guess I want life too easy.

I miss my beamer's one-touch open/close on the sunroof.

It's just above the license plate, under the Acura symbol on the trunk. And the switch in the glove box does defeat the trunk release button. I found this out when I bought the car and got home, read the manual about the remote trunk release button and it wouldn't work. The owner's manual says nothing about the defeat/override switch in the glove box. I found a thread over on the dark side that explained this feature. This is so you can valet the car and no one can get in the trunk with the valet key if you flip the defeat/override switch and lock the glove box.

Sticking the key in the lock on the 98-02 Accords and turning unlocks one door, holding the key in the lock for an additional 2-3seconds turned will then unlock all of the doors. Does this work on the TSX? This is nice if you only have the valey key and no fob handy and need to let your buddies in the car. Other then that seems useless to me.

There is a way, but it's totally annoying. You have to put the key in the LOCK, and lock the car. Hold the key in the lock position and all the open windows will roll up.

Yeah, but remember, you have to do it twice -- turn the key, release it, then turn it again.

(I know, "Yap yap yap yap.....") :P

As my one real gripe was the auto up windows, I'll take the key in the lock solution over the crazy hand manipulation to get all the windows up.

the auto headlight off feature, even the 2001 honda accord EX had it. and standard on the 2001+ CL and tl's

the auto arm on the alarm as well. reading the manual does wonders...

Please Clarify:

the auto headlight off feature... so if I leave my headlights on and lock the car the lights will automatically be shut off?

the auto arm on the alarm... if I turn off my car and walk away the alarm will arm? this does not seem to be the case, leading me to believe that my assumption is correct.

before you flame me and tell me to RTFM... I did my best... but that sucker is about 400 pages long... and being in law school I barely have enough time to wipe my own ass much less read 400 pages of manual.

TIA!

The lights turn off regardless of locking the car but the alarm only activates if you lock the car.

Additionally, if you lock the car with the alarm, unlock and forget to lock it again, without starting the car, then yes, the car will auto lock.

If you leave your keys behind in the ignition, hit the power lock button and leave your car, none of the doors will lock.

Here ya go..... One of the best little features I have noticed....and yes it has to do with the windows!!
After you shut the car off and realize you left the windows open you can still close them without starting the car. If neither front doors have been open you have, I think it's 10 seconds or 10 minutes, I'm not sure, to close the windows and moonroof! That is a nice handy feature!!

Just found another one!!! I have NON-NAVI that's all I know this to work on.
If ya want that "stealth look" at night, it's easy!!
We all know about the dashboard dimmer, but alas! It doesn't work with the clock, radio display, and AC controls, and those stay on unless you shut them off, well except the clock of course.
Well here ya go....
When the radio is on just hold down the CD/AUX button for a few seconds and you will hear a beep through your speakers and voila! All lights are completely off yet all systems are functioning!!!
I discovered this when trying to figure out if it is possible to display the time on the song you're listening to when using the CD player. I know it's there, you see it when scanning a song. Why can't we change the display??!!

It's supposed to be 10 minutes, but I think I found that on my car you don't get that much grace. But great either way.

That's great also about turning off the dash lights by holding down the CD/Aux. Gotta try that on mine (with Nav).

my friend told me that if you're cruising about about 40-50 MPH and then you turn the wheel left about 20 degrees and smash into a wall you can deploy your airbags.

I can vouch that this works on the navi cars also. My question is how to turn them back on. I just restarted the car and that works, but there must be an easier way.

I've noticed a lot of 'features' designed to keep you from locking your keys in the car. For instance, you can't lock with a remote if any door is open (or even the trunk?). This is kind of annoying, though. Friday night, for instance, my friend was tying his shoes as he was getting out of the back seat, and he was taking a while. I couldn't lock the doors until he was done and had closed his door. Oh well.

Also, the 30-second re-lock if you don't open a door caught me off guard. I was putting stuff in the trunk and heard something move. It was the doors locking again.

I don't know if this is in the manual...

We all know that the window would auto roll down if you push down the button. But I just found out while driving this weekend that if I pull the button way up to roll up the window, it kept going even after I let go.

Pressing the same button on my non-NAVI turns the lights back on, it seems like a longer wait for them to come back on than it is for them to go out so keep that in mind.
As far as the the window button goes, YES it is in the manual. The drivers window has an auto-up feature. If you pull the button to the second click it will go all the way up but just a slight hit on the button will only bring it as far up as you want as long as you hold the button.
