Dynamat Alternative

Dynamat Alternative
I know this general topic has been discussed before, but I went ahead and did some more research on the net and came across this product called Ice Guard that they sell at Home Depot.
It is basically some stuff that they use for roofing that prevents ice from damaging the roof or something, also has the peel and stick side like Dynamat. I've seen articles/posts that people claim it is essentially the same thing as dynamat, except that it doesn't have that silver backing, and 80% cheaper.
So I went to Home Depot, they didn't have the exact thing but had something called Weather something....can't remember the name, but was not in stock. The way that the associate there described it sounds like it was very similar to Dynamat, but apparently, it doesn't have the smooth silver backing (some has the rough surface like many roofing material, and some are just flat black like rubber.
...and the price was $49.99 for 150 sq ft!
Anyone tried to use this or do you think it will work? It sounds like it can't be layered like dynamat and other similar products, but at that price, it sounds like a good alternative.

I looked and looked for some alternatives at Home Dept/Lowes and no store ever had anything similiar. I had to just use Dynamat. I did read that the alternatives can give your interior a tar/roof odor that sometimes did not go away. You might adjust to it, but a passenger might not. Just a thought.

Yes, I was told that this Ice Guard or Weather "something" is not available in Home Depot in every state since it's, as the name suggests, for protection against ice during the winter. Seeing that you're from Dallas, it's not likely they'll carry this product in the local stores around you.
....and I forgot many of the members on the board live in states that don't often see snow....
As far as the odor, that was one of my concerns, but doesn't dynamat have the same tar-like odor?
