DRL installation?

I moved from California to Toronto recently. I am looking for a shop (or dealer) to install the Daytime running light (DRL). Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

It is part of what Canadian TSXs get, but we haven't figured out how to retro fit the missing pieces to our USA TSX.

Does anyone know where the missing components go?

1) Fuse is missing. Is there even wiring to the fuse holder for the DRL module?
2) Where does the acutal DRL module go. On the TL, the Canadian DRL relay and US Fog light relay share the same location. (The TL has bi-xenon lights, so the DRLs in Canada are where the US fog lights are.)

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is mandatory to have DRL in Canada. I will shop around and see if I can find out more information.

Just wire the headlights to the ignition and you'll have even better than a DRL.

Kills the life of the HID's if you leave the headlights on. Plus you don't have to manually turn them on and off whenever you drive the car.

Uhh. That's a myth.

My lights are on almost all the time and I have 207,000km, and the HIDs are still doing fine.

I just saw a TL with one HID brighter then another. I assume one blew and he only replaced 1?

DRL runs off the heambeams at a lower voltage (lowbeams).

As far as I remember, HID life is based on cycles (the number times they are turned on and off), not hours like regular Halogens.

Yes, many people reported slight colour difference after replacement and then just replaced both so that they match.

Our lights automatically turn off 15 seconds after you shut the engine off, so thats not a problem.

I also had a TL and left my HID's on most of the time. After 4 years and 215,000 kms one headlight started to strobe --real annoying. I was told the fix was a new ballast @ $400 plus. I now make sure I turn my TSX headlights off whenever possible. Not using them will prolong their life as all bulbs are rated by expected life in hours.

So you're saying a faulty ballast convinced you to try and prolong the life of your... bulbs... by not using them?

What exactly is the point of having lights if you're not going to use them? How much is safety worth exactly?

He doesn't need them on during the day. I'm just too lazy to turn it off during the day when I don't need them =)

This is funny.. People that have DRL dont want them. But people that dont have DRL want them..

Today I was reading the IS250/350 forums. And some people over there disabled their day time running lights (DRL).

They disabled it through the computer scanner. Lexus dealer did it for them.

Some people like DRL's some dont.

I personally dont care for if they are there or not.

Effective for the 2006 model year, it appears that Honda is equipping some of its models with the most offensive, highest glare DRL option available, the high beam headlamps. This is a clear indication that Honda is completely out of touch with safety issues in the US. Complaints regarding the excessive glare emitted by headlamp based DRL implementations have been on the record for over seven years. With no reliable evidence to support DRL usage in the US, Honda is merely doing this as a marketing gimmick. It's time for us to let them know that because of the high beam DRLs, their vehicles will become among the most hated on America's roads. Honda doesn't need to be rewarded for this step backward.

DON'T BUY THE 2006 HONDA CIVIC OR ACCORD!

Uhhh, this is the biggest crock of shit. My wife has an 06 Accord and the DRL's are located just above the main lamp, and the hi beams are a completey seperate bulb off to the side. In no way are the DRL's bright at all.

Though I would send "lightsout.org" a little love note, joerockt style...enjoy:

The DRL's for the new Accord are located just above the main lamp, and the hi beams are a completey seperate bulb off to the side.

Here's a nickel, buy a fuckin clue and do some research before making false assumptions like the one on your main page.

Love this question:
5) Do you flash your lights or take any other action against DRL equipped cars?

Yes. I pull out my MAC-10 and waste the bastards because Im a complete moron that has nothing better to do then waste my time going road rage over lights IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY.

Dumbfucks...

I do use my HID's- from dusk to dawn and I obviously use my DTR lights the rest of the time. How is this unsafe? I think you missed that what I was saying was that the HID lamps, like all other lamp types have an expected life. The lamps and ballasts are expensive to replace so why not try to prolong their life !

Ballasts are not supposed to just die out unless they have a flaw, which can always happen. But that's not wear.

As for the bulbs, given their duration, they will not cost more than a good set of halogens. In fact, they might cost even less in the long run.

I also recently moved from California to Canada...and HAD to get DRLs to pass the federal vehicle inspection. I got a dealer technician to install fog lights and wire them to turn on when my ignition is on. To pass the inspection, all you need is ANY light to have a forward beam. I've heard that they can even wire the side markers to turn on with the ignition and that would pass. But I kinda like the fog lights on when I start the car, I don't have to use my HID lamps all the time anymore.

Thanks for your information.

Finally, I got my DRL installed. It was more difficult than I thought. I took my TSX to Canadian Tire and left the car there for half a day. It ended up that they couldn't install it. They said the DRL is computer controlled in my car and it has to be installed by the dealer.

I called most of the dealers in the area and only one of them would do this. It took them around 5 hrs (the estimation was 2.5 hrs). They said the diagram in the service manual is different from what they actually saw in my TSX.

The total cost is $340CDN + tax.
