Does VSA decrease your acceleration?

I realized when my tires are chirping off the line, the VSA light comes on, can it be possible that it robs horsepower? I heard other traction control systems take away a good amount of horsepower and/or acceleration times via LS1's.

For maximum acceleration you want VSA turned off.

The way the VSA works is by reducing engine output and applying braking. It doesn't necessarily rob horsepower, in so many words, but because it does limit your engine output to manage wheelspin, you'll see a decrease in 0-60 times because the engine will not be in its optimum power band.

Yeah if you are near redlining it and power shift to 2nd with vsa on you will get a reduction in 'thrust' if you will.. the car feels faster if im 'beating on it' with vsa off.

you get wheel spin when u whomp on the gas with the vsa off? i get a little squeaks. hmmmm you wouldnt get tire spin on the AT with the vsa in tiptronic right? cuz theres like a second delay before the transmission shifts.. hmmm im sorta tired so i apolgoize if theyre dumb questions. wait till i read this in the mornin.....

@ fdl

VSA is no good for 0-60 or drag runs.

Nah, even w/ a AT VSA kills ur times, just for the hell of it I did an autocross run w/ the vsa on, it slows down the accel off the line and other places, W/ the AT even though im gonna get flamed for this if u wanna spin the tires a lil just powerbreak it, NO NUTRAL DROPS....rev it up to 2k rpms (Rev limiter dosent let u get past that) standing on the break then jump off the break and hit the gas, ull spin the tires

I don't think any of us are going to argue with you. Neutral drops are probably the worst thing you can do to a transmission.

i just wish the tsx has like a sport mode or something, where the computer retunes and what not yakno, and then like a regular gas effiecient. i mean im sure the technology is there, the car already does what it wants with the drive by wire and all that other stuff.

maybe someone should look into that.

p.s. i want 10% of the profits

Does the VSA automatically default to "ON" the next time the car is turned on?

Well back in the 70s when automatics didnt have locks to prevent you from shifting in reverse while going forward

the RSX lets you put it into drive from reverse, it doesnt lock up. the tranmission prolly screams tho, i really dont remmeber what noise it made

Just how bad is that for the transmission, i.e. is it safe to do this several times?

This is incredibly bad. It's a huge shock on the tranny and your ECU will record the event. If a tech runs the readout from the ECU and sees this, he will likely deny you any warranty claim related to your tranny.

Basically, don't do it.

Just do be clear, I'm talking about stepping on the brake, putting to 2K, and then letting go of the brake. Not the shift from neutral thing.

hoenstly, and type of burning out is bad for the tranny is just putting unneeded stress on it. since the car stops it at say 2000 rpm there really isnt much toruque there as compared to say about 6000 rpm power drops. the car really takes care of itself. so honestly a few times shouldnt hurt but i wouldnt make a constant recoccuring thing. i mean the few times i did it i couldnt get the car to really spin the tires, maybe it was where i was on the pavement but it did give me a good launch
