Does TSX have an Event Data Recorder?
I am very close to purchasing an 06 MT TSX and have one question before pulling the trigger. Does the TSX have an Event Data Recorder (EDR)? EDRs have recieved a lot of press lately, and I seem to recall that Honda has been resistant to installing them. Just thought I would check. Without debating the merits of an EDR, I prefer to not have one.
Thanks

i'm pretty sure they do.
i know they're hotly debated, but if i mess up while driving i'm willing to admit it... as much as it would suck... if everyone had one in their car it wouldn't be so bad it would be totally equal..
... my understanding of the situation is that case law isn't exactly clear on whether or not EDR data is admissible in court or not... no precident has been set in canada yet as far as i know, and i haven't heard of anything in the states either..

no it only records data related to an event when the airbags are deployed i believe...
it's main use is so that honda can gather data about what happened...
i believe it's sorta like a planes black box, except it records a few seconds before the event and a few seconds after the event..
(imagine a loop of tape that perpetually records over itself... when the accident happens it records for a few seconds after and then stops, so the engineers can go back and see what the car was doing at before/during/after impact...)
it'll show if you were on the gas, or brake, did VSA get activated? were the headlights on?
basically anything that is controlled by the ECU is recorded apparently.

Yup, this is what they record. If an airbag is deployed, the manufacturer can determine lateral g-forces, speed at impact, ABS engagement, etc...
All of this helps improve the safety of our cars.

Yes, there is a (brief) mention of the EDR in the first page or so of the owner's manual.
