Does the MID consider time when calculating the oil life?
Does the MID consider time when calculating the oil life?
On my first oil change, I was going strictly by the MID and ended up going 5 months/5000 miles.
Right now, I've only put on another 2000 miles in the past 3 months and the MID is showing 60%.
So I'll probably go another 2-3 months again before it reaches 0-10%, so that means possibly 6 months between an oil change.
That's well beyond the recommended life of oil according to the oil industry (or their marketing dept.) which states that change intervals are "normally" 3 months/3000 miles, which ever occurs first.
Can I trust that the MID will take into account extra time between oil changes due to my personal driving habits?

I don't think it takes time into consideration, but the old 3-months/3000 miles is really archaeic and the oil produced these days is more advanced than that.
Heck, the recommended OCI's for the 04/05 TSX is something like 16,000km or 12 months, whatever comes first.
Oil won't "go bad"... unless its in there for a LONGGGG time.
