hmmm not that I've seen, but I've seen other hondas from across the pond with their plates off center, thought to myself well i dont like the place in the center of the car, it interupts the point in the middle of the car, and I need to have it on or else I'll get pulled over and what not, so what the hey!

On my last 4 cars, I never even mounted the bracket when I PDI-ed them. I just throw the mounting kit in my garage so that it's ready to throw in the trunk for the next owner (if they want to use it). Those suckers are $40 if you don't have it.

Moral of the story: Keep your mounting bracket. Especially if your state of residence is a bitch about fron t plates. You'll need to take a digital pic for presentation to have the ticket wiped.

Well, if a cop really wants to give you a ticket, you will get stopped for not having a front plate on. A few years ago, I was driving my integra (stock set up) w/o a front plate on in L.A. Passed a motorcycle cop at an intersection. He was just driving and didn't have his rader gun out or anything. He saw me, pulled me over and gave me a fix it ticket for not having front plates. Although the fix it ticket was cheap, it is very inconvenient to wait several hours in line to pay the ticket and then wait again to have the Sheriff inspect your vehicle to clear the ticket. Definitly not worth it if you get caught.

Good idea! I think I may do the same thing. Here in WA the cops are dicks and pull you over for taking your hand off the wheel to sneez (not really). The pate is required, but it makes the front end look booty. I will break the cheesy dealer plate frame, throw it in the trunk with the plate and use that as the excuse.

Now lets see if I actually do it

Minnesota says I have to have one, so I do. It's sitting on my back seat for quick access. Just in case.

It's off my 05 RL and my RX-8. No tickets yet.

i got the wrong screws when i tried mounting a covered frame to the front, so i took the whole assembly off and threw it in the trunk until i could get replacement screws. but i liked it so much w/out it on that i just decided to leave it off, and if i get pulled over because of it, i'd just tell them the truth, that the screws were broken and i was waiting for replacements.... from 14 months ago...!

besides, i kinda took an informal poll of cars on the road w/out front plates, and around here in cali, i'd say maybe 1 in 10 cars don't have them, so i'm playing the odds....

My bracket is sitting in the trunk where it was when I picked up the car. I have no idea what the law is in AZ, but in Maine I would have had to have it. I hope not here....(opens new window to check law.....

For the Minnesota guys and gals without front plate, saw this in the Star Tribune today:
License plate violations on the rise
Associated Press
April 29, 2005

"The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is reporting an increase in the number of license plate violations in the state.

Officials say the most common violation is failure to display both front and rear license plates as required by state law.

Another common violation is obscuring license plates with a plastic cover or something similar. State Patrol Sergeant Curt Mowers said it's against the law to cover plates with any materials that reduce the reflectivity.

The average fine for registration violations is about $80."

Hey Nicky, even tho Cali law requires front plates, i see plenty cars without them. And since we're still on paper plates cuz our cars are new, it shouldnt pose a threat for the first couple weeks. i took the front bracket off tho...u should too if i get pulled over for not having plates, ill just tell them my car didnt have brackets set up to begin with wen i bought the car...

watch out tho wen u head to LAX. they catch ppl like crazy there sicne the whole 9/11 thing. i drove my dad's camry (no brackets in front) to the airport and got pulled over and got a fixit ticket. so if u plan on going plate-less, don't drive ur tsx to the airport!

and here's something interesting: u NEVER see sports cars with front plates (Corvettes, Lambos, Ferraris, etc)... and car advertisements always show their cars without them too... if certain states really require front plates, then the dmv should consider releasing clear transparent "bumper-sticker license plates" that u apply to the bumper so all u see are the numbers/letters rather than a big rectangle/square piece of metal sticking out...

Got a fat juicy ticket in LAX without having the front license on, $400 court session. What did I learn from that? .... Absolutely nada, still driving around without the plate in the front

-KC

edit: btw, i'm in SoCal, for those of you going to LAX, make sure you put ur front plate on, then just yank it right out when u get home, simple as that

Anyone have any experience with Colorado cops and no front plate? I just got back from school in Pennsylvania and really don't want to attach the damn thing.

Keep driving without the plate. IF a cop pulls you over for that, just tell him/her that you came back from Penn. and just didn't realize it's different for Colorado

p.s. it's usually OK to play dumb in front of cops, as long as you are polite to them

lol... TOTALLY true. If you act like you don't know the law 90% of the time you are gonna get out of it. (of course this isnt true if you try telling the officer you thought the speed limit was 90 not 40 )

It seems like we have this same discussion every couple of months. I think there are a few states that do not require the front license plate, but most do. However, most cops are not observant enough to really notice it. Meter maids, though, have been known to give tickets so beware. Best trick is out of state plates. If you keep your car registered in another state, then you don't have to worry about the front plate situation.

My, I'm just gonna tell the cop that pulls me over that I'm waiting on my dealership to send me a bracket.

Yeah... my lovely neighbouring province of Alberta doesn't require front plates. (do they even issue them???)

Hey, that waiting for a bracket trick might just work!!! I am so tempted to rip off my front plate now!!!

I agree...but ignorance is not an excuse or defense you can ever use in front of a judge. Most times it will work on the officer though.

I live in CA. Took my front plate off before I left the dealership. No problem yet. I guess its because our car is a luxury car and looks good so they dont think anything is wrong. I see cops shooting radar at me all the time and they never bother to pull me over.

No, KY doesn't require it. It's nice. I think cars look way better without the front plate. I even hate the bumper cutout. It ruins the lines of a car.

In OR the law is that the license plate must be visibly displayed. so it is... on the bottom of my passenger windshield. =) it's visible from the front of the car.
