Do you guys have Butter-soft shifting on the Manual Tranny?
when you guys are upshifting or downshifting is the shifter moved into each gear in one smooth as butter motion? for example, is it smooth as shifting through the gears when the car is not moving?
i ask because it seems as if when the car is parked and i go through the gears its smooth, but when its in motion its a different story; sometimes its smooth, and most times it feels rigidy, kind of like the shifter is going against small bumps..

Yes, there's a little resistance on occasion when I shift.

On occasion there's a bit of notchy feel, but that's the synchros working. If you time the shifts better, this can be eliminated almost completely.

As far as shifting while driving vs. stationary, I really don't notice feel much resistance between shifts (except for the 1-2 upshift, but everyone experiences that). Usually, when I'm just driving leisurely, I can even use 2 fingers to upshift into 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Also, it looks like your car maybe new, so I'd suggest you put a few more miles on it and break the tranny in a little more before you come to a conclusion. Mine became noticeably smoother after 4-5k miles (I'm at 8k right nwo)
I haven't driven too many manual cars, but I can say that the TSX has the best and smoothest shifter of them all - so much so that I almost named my car "Butters"...

It probably depends on how many miles are on your car.
When I got mine new, it was tight. But I would say it is very precise.
Now, after 13K, it is losen up. It is still pretty precise, but I would like to see it a little bit tighter.
If you have a new car, you should be happy about it. This is the new car feel

I posted a reply to this in the other forum....how many miles you got on the car? and Have you tried changing the Tranny fluid?..this made a difference when i changed mine at 20K miles......seems a lot lower than the manual specifies!

i have about 2,300 miles on the car.
for me 1-2 (most of the time), 3-4 (sometimes), and 5-6 shfting feels rough...the weird thing is that sometimes its buttery smooth.
this is my first manual car and i have put the car and tranny through alot since i have been practicing my car. i am just worried that all these stalls, mis-shifts, and under or over rev match didnt make my tranny weak somehow.

I have had many manual transmission cars, and I consider this one of the smoothest shifting ones I've had.
I bought it with 15,000 and it is around 31,000 now, and I have not noticed a change in the feel.

My TSX has 61,000 miles on it and it is honestly the best shifting manual I have ever driven. I have driven many BMW manuals, and those are nice but take more effort to shift. My TSX takes little effort and when it engages into gear its solid, not mushy. The transmission in the car is one of my favorite things about it.

Although I've had my share of complains about the DBW system and the slighly long-throw clutch that has no sweet-spot, I think the shifter itself is pretty smooth once you get used to it.
This doesn't mean your shifts will feel smooth, but the process of taking the shifter out of a gear and putting it in the next one should feel as smooth as a car can be. This is what people are talking about when they say "TSX HAS A SHIFT AS SMOOTH AS BUTTER". In terms of smooth transmission of power from one gear to another the TSX is absolutely horrible as its DBW system has a mind of its own and doesn't give a hoot about smoothness.
To make your shifter go into gear in a smoother way, try to press the clutch all the way in(This won't be neccessary once you get the hang of it).
To make the whole shifting experience smoother(very very hard in a TSX), try to focus more on the gas-peddal. Make sure there's a slight amount of throttle being applied before you let go of the clutch. This is not easy to achieve as the DBW will piss you off with its lack of obedience, but eventually you'll get better at it.
If you manage to shift thru gears smoothly in a TSX, you'll be able to take a nap while shifting in other cars.
And everytime you get that infamous hesitation(jerk) between shifts, you can loudly say "F*** YOU AND YOUR DBW HONDA"
That's what many of us do.

Pretty much snick-snick for mine. Best tranny action by far of any car I've owned. I did have the tranny fluid changed to full synth at ~15K miles, and that helped make things even smoother.

I agree with everyone when they say that its tuff learning how to battle the DBW...., but once you "get it"......., that is....., every little difference the tsx manual tranny has compared to other trannys you may have experience with" it will trully become the better driving experience you have ever had. When I go form driving other manuals......., its like night and day. My roomate has a A4 and that thing is the complete opposite of our tsx....., the audi clutch/tranny is not sensitive AT ALL....., its a guessing game....., I kind of think that it is idiot proof (the audi clutch that is) as it is much easier to make the transtions from each gear......, but like I said there is no finesssssssss. I truelly love our clutch/tranny after driving others....., except when I have the infamous clutch creak......, NOW THAT IS THE MOST ANNOYING THING ABOUT OR DRIVE TRAIN......
