Disable XM Radio??

I did not renew my XM subscription after my initial 3 month trial due to it's awful programming.

I have a 2005 TSX 6MT non-Nav and I'd like to know if there is a way to disable the "free" XM radio channels that I have to cycle through when using the Mode button?

I want it to only cycle through FM1 - FM2 - CD

sorry if this was asked before, I searched the forums first.

Pull open the right side trunk lining. Tucked back in there a little ways is a gray metal box with two cable harnesses going into it. One is the antenna (smaller), the other is the power, audio, and control for the XM receiver (bigger). Just take off the bigger connector. When you turn your radio back on, it won't see the XM, and should just skip past it. (That's what I recall it doing when I was messing around with adding a line-in connector.)

Yesterday I just had an '06 TL as a loaner (https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...23&postcount=8) and I found myself liking the XM.

Would it be possible for someone who isn't using their XM (like MikeZ) to remove the XM hardware from their '05-'06, and sell the parts to me so I could XM-enable my '04 TSX w/navi?

I don't think the cable harness or support hardware exist in the HU for XM on the '04. I don't have an '04, but I can't imagine why they would have put support in for something that wasn't available.

I thought XM was available in '04s as a dealer installed option.

I might be interested in selling my '06 XM hardware if price makes it worth the effort.

I called the two dealerships in my area and asked the question. The guys at both dealerships said "Hold on, let me check" and went to talk to someone else. Whomever they talked to didn't know either, so both said "Let me call you back." Dealership #2 said he may need to call Honda of America to get an answer.

I got a message from dealership #1, saying it's not possible to get XM in an 04 in any way whatsoever -- it wasn't even a dealer-installed option. Dealership #2 hasn't called me back yet.

STL, I agree with you. I think it was a dealer-installed option in the '04. Here's another reason I know dealership #1 was wrong, and that it is possible for an '04 to have XM:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7927253969

However, there's a big difference between buying a $600 kit that effectively makes XM an add-on, and having it integrated into your navi. I know the former is possible (but frankly, at $600 plus installation costs, plus the fact that it wouldn't be integrated and the steering wheel controls may or may not work with it, I'm probably not interested). But if there was a way to make it an integrated part of the navi -- like in an 05 or 06 -- that's what I'd like to do.

I know, probably a longshot. But I've been amazed by the knowledge of the people in this community, so I'm hoping someone will once again dazzle me with a brilliant way to pull it off.

Definitely doesn't look anything like the stock hardware in my '05. http://www.cheaphondaparts.com/shop/...Category_ID=42 doesn't mention anything about the TSX as it being possible to install in, just the Accord, Odyssey, and Pilot. The installation instructions make it look like it uses an FM modulator too.

If you need pics to help, or hints on opening the lining, search around, because I know there's some out there. Otherwise, I've opened it all up before.

Might be a good idea. I pryed open both sides looking for it and didn't see any boxes with wires going into it. Could they be a bit lower? I only removed the first pin.

I woudn't be interested in selling the XM component since it could be a selling point for a future buyer.

Convert XM to Sirius?

Might be a dumb question, but can we switch that harness in the trunk from an XM component to a Sirius component if I wanted to? I've become a NASCAR geek and XM lost the contract starting in 2007 to Sirius. Kind of makes the XM obsolete for me except for music and I can get that on Sirius. Just wasn't sure how any of that worked or how the main interface (non-navi) would recognize or accept it.

I suspect you might be able to rig something up to pump the Sirus audio signal into the radio (when in XM mode), but I bet that's about all you would be able to realisitically do.

my friend has a portable sirius unit and it's sweet. i'd just get a portable unit instead of all the trouble.

siruis or xm. i think i'd probably buy sirius if i was buying, but i don't mind xm since it came installed.

So get this... I was taking my TSX in for annual service this week anyway and so I asked them if they could disconnect the XM unit in the trunk.

The answer I got was this was not recommended because electronic parts could "dry up" if they are not used and eventually stop working because of lack of electricity.

The example they gave was some NSX's that were stored or not driven frequently sometimes have problems with their radios.

I smell BS. Can anyone back up what they're telling me?

Sounds like complete BS. So if I don't use my DVD player for a couple of months, then it dries up and can't be used anymore?

Sounds like they just don't want to do the labor necessary to disconnect it.
