Decisions: Purchase a 2006 or 2007 TSX???

Hello folks! My first time on the boards. I plan to buy a brand new tsx, just one problem. 2006 or 2007. If the ONLY feature difference between the two is the tire pressure monitoring system, would I be able to pick up a 2006 for a great deal less than the 2007? Surely the 2006s would go down in price significantly once the 2007 models roll out. Feedback on this is greatly appreciated. Hope to sign in with my new VIN before X-mas.

I would get the 06, TPMS isn't going to be worth the 1-2k you can save by getting an 06.

If I were to hit the 06, when should I do it???

If I were to get the 2006, should I wait until right before the 07s hit the lot or just after?

Get an 06! I hate the TPMS thing, it WILL malfuction sooner or later and the will cost YOU money after warrenty is up. So I would rather have it without it.

If it were me, i would wait until the 07's start rolling in and they want to get rid of their 2006 inventory, they should have some big sales im sure on the 06's, but thats just my opinion

I think you should wait as long as possible for the '06, but keep in mind that as the '06 are no longer shipped soon before the '07 arrive, your choices for '06 will become more limited. So it should also depend on the color and transmission combo's you are considering and their popularity, hence availability.

an 06 for 26000 with navi?? Uhhhhh, no. Invoice is 27,872 so there is no way any dealer is that generous. what would be the point unless you wait until Jan. 2007 or something and the dealer just wants to get rid of it. i say get an 06..you'll pay around 27500 for navi if you really work the deal. the 07 will be at sticker or above no doubt about it.

I asked about the '07 MSRP in this post. bradykp's opinion is that the '07 won't go for MSRP since the '06 did not last december.

I am also on the fence between 06/07.

Go with the '06. Wait till they start clearing them out though as ppl have suggested. The '07s will be more expensive and really, TPMS just isn't worth the few extra $?ks.

I've got the '06 and my only "regret" is not going with the navi although I wouldn't've gotten the navi for that specific purpose but rather because of the extra look plus the added voice commands.

I think the deals are starting to happen. I contacted about 8 dealers in the Chicago and Southern Wisconsin Area, told them from Edmunds.com knew folks were getting sales at invoice or better, and asked them to make their best offer. 6 out of the 8 offered invoice, and sounded willing to deal more. Most had large inventories of TSXs without a great deal of time to move them b4 new model year.

I went with the dealer a mile from house for $100 bucks over invoice (next closest was 100 miles away). I think you can start dealing now, while the color choices are still good.

Good luck.

I'm not sure if it matters. If i were you, I would start shopping soon. I started shopping in September of 2005 and looked at some 2005 models. With the highly anticipated 2006 model coming out, I figured that since there were so many new features, major ones, such as blue tooth and memory seats and the MID, that there were be some great deals.... Well, Princeton Acura did nothing for me on a 2005. Motor World in Scranton was going to, but once I heard about blue tooth I had to have it!

Anyways, that being said, I worked out a deal in November for a brand new 2006 for 28,300 + tax. That was before any 2006's were on the lot and only about $1,000 more than most quotes I got on a 2005 (but I didn't do any haggling on the 2005, I'm sure I could have gotten it down below $27,000 if I tried).

The thing about waiting is there will be less choices. Do you have a few combinations that you want picked out? Do you want manual (more rare!), or worse, manual w/navi (extremely rare)! Non-navi models seem to be harder to come by than Navi models, are you willing to spring for the extra? Lots to consider, either way, go and start pricing the 2006 at dealerships that you might consider, but leave a dealership open to go to about the 2007 that you didn't inquire about a 2006. That's my advice. Hopefully you have a few locations to work with.

Dealers have been selling the 2006 for under invoice in some areas of the country since a few months after it came out. Some people in cali have reported getting it for as low as $27,200 that I can remember. I don't think it would be absurd to find a 2006 model for around $26,750 based on that, but I'm sure it'd be hard to come by. I would bet the 2006's keep moving, as there is not much reason to wait for a 2007, and in my area, the dealers weren't bending over backwards to move the 2005's when there was plenty reason to wait for 2006.

And then comes the question, how long will you be driving the vehicle? Because the 1-1.5k you may save now may be offset by the depreciation difference.

also, does anyone know the impact of a new model year on prior model years? obviously, the car will lose some value when the brand new 2008 comes out right? but will it be worse for a 2006 vs 2007 or the other way around? this is my first brand new car, so I have no experience in this. I'd imagine all prior years take a slight hit, but that not one is affected more than another. This is purely assumption though, based on the fact that the 2004-2006 all hold value well, even though different features are available. I would start the process of looking for a 06 model now, especially if you have a specific color/trans/navi combo. It may take some time and some traveling to find what you want.

Some stealerships have actually sells people who might even get you a 07 very close to the $$$ and combo you want in the 06. Best time for that is the end of the month and a better time is the end of the year around X-mas because of taxes dealerships have to pay on inventory at the end of the year. But those honest sells people are as rare and elusive Yeti or Bigfoot; but they are out there.

I haven’t seen how the TPMS works for the 07 TSX. You might be limited to certain after market rims styles/make/size OR stuck with OEM/A-Spec rims to have the TPMS to work properly.

Does anyone know if TPMS will work with aftermarket rims?

According to Acura TPMS only works on OEM rims..

while now that it's mandatory on cars starting in '07 i'm sure they will come out with aftermarket rims that accept TPMS sensors, but i have a feeling that

1 - TPMS sensors will be somewhat proprietary to car manufacturers
2 - wheels that come TPMS sensor ready will be sold at a premium because they'll be the latest greatest trend...

I'd rather buy an '06, and be able to mod it how i want, and then years down the road when i'm getting another car TPMS will have been around for so long I won't be paying a premium for new wheels... it'll just be the regular price cuz TPMS will be old news by then...

To Whom Should I go?

This is the FIRST car I've purchased in my life from a dealership and have been reading up on how the process works, but need some specific tips regarding internet sales. Can I use Edmunds to get a legitimate quote from the dealer I'm interested in purchasisng the car from? Would they be offended and blacklist me if I posted a price that was $1-2k below the current invoice forn a 2006 even though the 07s will be rolling in? Or, should I go to the salesman and haggle with him over that matter?

Thanks!

wow, first purchase at 31 from a dealership? more power to you for surviving that long.

Some tips: check out the thread that got me here in the first place:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...t=price+paying

it's pricing for the 2006.

also look at the ownership page, most people i believe posted their price. this gives you a good idea of how the pricing works in different areas of the country and different times of the year.

best thing to do is go talk to the internet sales manager at a dealership.

you have two options, request email quotes (i would do this if you have many dealerships in your area) and then follow up with the better quotes you get.

when you show up in person, some places take you more serious. you could also do phone calls.

if you only have a few dealerships in your area, then suck it up one afternoon and make the trip in. tell them you did you research online, and you're interested in a 2006 TSX w/navi (just an example if that's what you want) for around $26,500.

You might get laughed at, but i think that's a reasonable offer, given that a few months ago people had it for 27,200-28,500.

You should absolutely not pay more than $27,500. if they won't budge, start talking about the 2007, ask what new features it will have and what the price will be. start showing them that you're losing interest in the 2006, and if you have to, leave and say you'll think about it or something.

once you get a few quotes, let them do all the work. one place will beat another, which will be beat by another and so on. get the add-ins you want if you can't get the price knocked down.

oh and also, don't talk color combinations until you get the price. then start seeing what they can get in. if they know you have your heart set on a particular combination and that it's gonna be hard to track down, then they know they don't need to do as much work on price.

it's helpful if the vehicle you want is on the lot too, because they're going to want to move it quicker.

summary:
get lots of quotes and pit dealers against each other
go towards the end of the month
talk to the INTERNET SALES department only
research financing options ahead of time - if financing through dealer, don't let them screw you with interest or fees

some things to note:

documentation fee - most places seem to do it and won't waive it. should definitely not be more than $200 though or they're pulling your chaing
Window Etching - waste of money - don't do it

Extended Warranty - most likely a waste of money, but can do a lot of price negiating when you purchase the vehicle - i wouldn't get it, but if it's something you consider - negotiate that the day you purchase

As far as quotes that you get - don't add any accessories to your initial quotes - otherwise they will say the quote is invalid if you remove and of those accessories.

if you have any specific questions, lemme know. i'm happy to chat about it on aim or through email

Yes. The car I have now, a 96 Civic, I purchased used from a private party that was 2 years old at the time. The cars I had before that were fully depreciated 'hand-me down' cars when I received them from family. I also promptly returned them to family. This was during my undergrad years FYI. And I don't recommend 8-Track Players in cars!!! To some extent, the cassette and 8track player experience is why I'm leary of how the Navi will look when I am in my TSX 6 or 7 years down the road.

navi won't look as archaic as non navi. but there's plenty of threads with that debate.

I read somewhere that if you plan on selling your car within 3-4 years, it is definitely smarter to buy a later model year, and pay a little more for it. If you plan on keeping the car long term, though, go with the 06.

Just received 2 quotes on the 06 TSX

Of the two quotes I received, the best for an '06 AT, Navi is $27,999. Should I offer $26,750 or is that low-balling?

There offering that here in SA town and thats at a no haggle dealership.Personally I wouldnt pay over 27,500 this late in the model year so I would at least try and get the 27.5.

Thanks for the feedback jasonviper. Hopefully I'll be able to 'sign-on' officially to the board soon. Thanks!

I drive my cars for a looooong time as well. However, because of this, I don’t really even consider resale value, or how it will “look” in the future. So getting that out of the way, GET THE NAVI. It’s well worth it. Even if you are good at directions, and don’t travel much, it makes the car a joy to operate. Everything is so easy to use on the screen, or by voice command. Many times I turn off the voice directions, and use the “Go Home” button just to track how many miles/minutes I am from my house. When the wife calls and I’m in the car, it’s fun to say “I’m 6.2 miles from the house.” hehe

Quick Reply: Decisions: Purchase a 2006 or 2007 TSX???
