Dealer Visit

Here s story of my dealer visit today. For those that care.

I mentioned in the P&F thread about taking my car in to have the speaker TSB done, along with some other things. Here's the story:

I brough it in wednesday for an oil change (5,200 miles), truck wire recall, speaker TSB, and 2 horrible rattles coming from the steering colum and dash. One is a quieter clicking, and the other is a loud clapping noise. I get a call in the afternoon saying the oil change and recall are done. But the could fix the colum rattle or the speaker rattle because they couldnt hear the rattles. I told them to perform the TSB anyway (thanks for the advice CG) and they did, but they still didn't fix the other rattles.

I went to the dealership and took the tech. for a drive to listen to the rattle. While we were out I checked for the speaker rattle and it seems to be gone so the TSB worked out for me. As for the other rattle, the tech at first didn't hear it, but after a while he did and agreed there was something loose. He also looked under the dash, above the pedals and saw that the plastic panel thats there was unhooked and loose like someone didn't properly put it in place. Seems like the source of the 2 rattles have been identified.

Hopefully by tomorrow, i should be rattle, recall free, with new oil

Congrats. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to get the tech out in your car with you and make them acknowlege that they hear the rattle. If you don't do that then it's too easy to just fall into the "can't reproduce" game. Once they acknowlege that they hear it then the real work begins. Hope that does the trick for you and that the rattles don't return.
