Well I havn't. I didnt hear anything major about the TSX being broke into. Plus i think the car might be too new for there to be any theft statistics on it.

Lightbulb

I`m primarily interested in knowing any loopholes with the security system (stock and aftermarket) and any other limitations on the security of the car from potential break ins. I`m wondering because ppl broke into my brothers accord with barely and scratches to the window or anything. Has anyone tried breaking into thier own car????? HAHA

Shock sensor is not standard with the stock alarm. Breaking a window will not set off alarm without an aftermarket upgrade or optional shock sensor for the stock alarm.

That sucks but if someone really wants to break in they`ll break in.

1. Break the window
2. Pop the hood
3. Cut the battery
4. Take your sweet time looking for goodies
5. Walk away

boooo!

Hood lock and a battery powered back up siren would slow them down.

Relocate the battery to the trunk to throw them off. Btw, poping the hood will set off the factory alarm.

My next alarm: No normal "siren", 2-way LCD, twin piezo sirens on the INSIDE, backup battery, glass mike, impact sensor, tilt sensor, and horn honk that's only enabled by opening a door.

Are there any really good aftermarket alarms that dont turn your car intothe batmobile? I dont like Crazy LED/LCD controllers that look like cell phones and stuff. Does anyone, really like thier aftermarket alarm system? I want to protect my investment!!!!!!!!!!!

my car was broken into.

they smashed the front passenger window in with a bat or something i guess. glass was shattered all over the inside, parts of the dash got cut into from the glass. the alarm didnt even go off, so i dont even know when they did it. they grabbed a video and digital camera though. if i ever find the crack heads that did it, its gonna be time

Yes, I did try to break in myself, but I caught myself doing it, wrestled myself to the ground, and stopped myself before anything was taken or damaged. ;o)

Certainly, it's just hard to get a salesman to sell you one.

Alarms do three things:

1) Protect against vehicle theft (starter kill, other kills). This is a waste of time with any car equipped with an immobilizer like the TSX, in my professional opinion. If they want to steal the whole car they'll use a flatbed.

2) Protect against burglary. This is by monitoring entry points and sensors (impact, glass break, tilt, really), and reacting with noise and lights to a violation. Better alarms have two or more different levels of reaction to try to make false triggers much less annoying and still warn off a would-be thief.

3) Convenience - locks, trunk pop, remote start, etc.

(Protect against vandalism isn't on here because you can't... unless a big catcher's mitt comes out and catches the brick.)

You can accomplish the first two with a bottom of a line alarm from a decent company. Your only question is if you have enough zones of input so the alarm can tell the difference between various triggers and sensors (actually pretty important).

My idea lately is that sirens are not working well in urban areas, almost entirely due to shops selling crappy installs and false alarms denying real alarms any credibility. That's why I'm considering my next alarm with only a couple of tiny piezo sirens on the inside of the car.

If I'm protecting against burglary, I want to deter people from stealing the contents, and I want them to not try to take off the wheels (for the wheels, I am debating the external siren...) So I'm wondering if having a smaller 2-way LCD and no external siren would be better.

But the effectiveness against a would-be thief is all about install. Hidden wiring, backup power, sirens you can't reach, brains you can't reach to unplug... takes time, and time is money.

It is nice to be on a forum and see little to no threads about cars being stolen. On Integra sites all I saw every day were threads on Integra's being stolen. Scared the shit out of me to the point I would leave my car and wonder if it would be there when I got back.

You know those high high high dB alarms, the ones that burn your ear drums? Like you know those personal alarms where your pull the string and it goes off, and you cant hear for 5 minutes after its off . I like those! Do they sell those for car alarms?

in a questionable neighborhood, i don't even leave CD cases in plain sight, let alone expensive electronics. your risk is dropped to a minimum if would-be thieves don't see anything in the open.

If you're going to brag about the expensive stuff you have in your car AND start a thread about the potential vulnerabilities of TSX security, you might want to consider removing the picture from your cardomain site that shows your latitude and longitude on your nav screen. Just a thought.
