Cost of TSX Auto Insurance
So, I recently sold my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara (virtually brand new) to purchase a 2005 Acura TSX. I was paying approximately $520 for 6 month coverage on the Jeep with Progressive Auto Insurance, and now the premium has increased to about $740 for the TSX.
I understand the TSX is a entry-level premium car, and considered a "sporty" vehicle, which increases the premium, but I didn't anticipate an increase of $220. Is this reasonable considering the TSX is worth about half the value of the Jeep?

Insurance premiums are essentially based off of the average cost of repairing the vehicle. The TSX is more expensive to repair than the Jeep. The category the vehicle is classified in doesn't matter. It's all about how much each vehicle costs the insurance company. They'll charge you a little more than you're expected to cost them for your premium so that they still make money.

The category matters, the horsepower matters, the car's age matters, the style matters (coupe or sedan), your age and sex matter, the number of accidents and violations matter too and in some countries even the color of the car matters. The premium is not just based on the cost of repair of your car, but also the likelihood that you will be in an accident at fault where your insurance will have to pay the other party.
But in your case - I am assuming your driving record didn't change- the only difference between the 2 premiums is the car and as Itchytoe said it costs more to fix, but also I would assume that from an insurance point of view TSX owners are more likely to get in accidents at fault (I hope not, but the sportier the car the higher is the premium).
Jeepsquad, I had Progressive and my full insurance premium was $790, so i told my insurance guy and Progressive screw you and went with Travellers. I think I pay $540 or so. Hope that helps. Do a search on one of those insurance search engines, it should give you the best deal.

Yeah, I agree with all the points. A 40% increase in insurance premium seems a bit high going from a $30k Jeep to a $15k TSX (all the other factors remaining the same).
I think I will call around to obtain some quotes and see which company offers me the best price.

Oddly I traded in a G35 coupe for a TSX (more practical by far) and my insurance went up lik e$10 per 6 months.
Then again I pay like 650 per 6 months through mercury (which coincidentally there is an ad banner for above as i'm posting this).
Unless you have a horrible driving record or something you should see if you cna get your insurance rate down especially on a 4 year old car.

Well, I do not know how insurance companies factor in costs or whatnot but I can only say that my 05 TSX insurance is slightly higher then my 06 TL insurance, not much...$21.40 for the year with for full coverage to be exact.

shop around, and get the best rate. my TSX is in my wife's name, as she's the primary driver. we got quotes varying from $700 every 6 months, to $1900 every 6 months. if you fit into an insurer's current desires, they will charge you less. of course, your personal history has a lot to do with it, but as i recall, wranglers generally have expensive insurance, so i'd be surprised if the TSX really added that much...

Just for comparison. I have a 2004 TSX. I'm 30. I have USAA insurance. I thInk you can only get it if you were in the service I believe. I pay $410.25 for 6 months. My wifes 2008 grand caravan is $390 something. I think you rates are really high but there might be other factors
