Corrosion Protection Options

I purchased a 2006 TSX a couple months ago and I want to get the car protected from future corrosion. From my knowledge I have two options; To get an electronic rust protector unit installed, or to have my car sprayed every season. Here's my issue that I hope to get some opinions on.

The Electronic Rust Protector has some serious criticism, being that it just does not work. I've read that there has actually been court orders in Canada and the US to remove these items from retail sale. I don't want to spend $500+tax at the dealership for something that doesn't work.

The undercoating/spray apparently requires a number of holes to be drilled. I went to Krown Rust and had them explain to me the process. The employee told me that they drill (4) four holes in each rocker panel and (4) four holes in each door so that they can inject the fluid. Thats a total of 32 holes, each 3/8" with black plastic caps. I personally don't want to look at a bunch of black plastic caps every time I open the door (although I guess its better than looking at rust). I really don't want them to drill a bunch of holes into the car.

What should I do? Do I have any other alternatives? I prefer no holes in the car.

Thanks

I own a 06 tsx, bought new. It does not have any added rust protector. If I drive on salted roads I take it to a car wash to make sure the underbody is cleaned. My car has no rust (knock-on-wood) after 121,000+miles.

Krown is a GREAT option. Where are you located?

I've had many vehicles Krown'd before and they should be able to provide other colour plugs if you're that concerned (although you only see the plugs when the door is open!). They apply a special Krown grease to the holes and plugs so that the holes should never rust.

I personally use Rust-Check now as a friend is an authorized retailer and applicator. It's as good, or better than, Krown, and his shop does a very good job here in Ottawa.

nj2pa2nc: Serious rust can and does occur in the nothernmost states and most of Canada. NC doesn't have nearly enough prolonged salted roads, or snowy/slushy weather, to accelerate the rusting like it does up here. Consider yourself lucky.

When we lived in Pa (the Poconos) we experienced the prolonged salted roads. We made sure the underbody was washed often to get rid of it before it stay on the car too long. Yes we are lucky that NC does not salt their roads which is rarily needed anyway but we do live on the coast with the ocean air.
