Considering a '04 TSX...
Hello All,
I've been considering buying either a used 2002-2003 TL-S or a 2004+ TSX.
I've pretty much ruled out the TL because of the tranny problems.
The TSX on the other hand is a bit out of my price range, unless it has higher miles. I have to admit I haven't test drove one yet(I will soon), but have heard good things about them thru a friend who did, as well as reviews, etc.
At the moment I own a '91 MR2 Turbo so I'm not expecting it to corner as well, but I need a four door/seater and the TSX seems to fit the bill in performance & dependability.
I did happen to find a stock Red '04 TSX w/6sp MT, Nav & Wood Accents w/just over 78,000 miles for $14,000(possibly cheaper).
Not knowing a whole lot about these cars, is this a pretty good deal?!?
Anything in particaular I should be leary about?
(Glad to find out the TSX has a timing chain vs. a belt. )
Thanks in davance!

=/ im not really sure about ur price range but i personally think that 78k miles is a bit much
i recent picked up an 04 tsx no nav 6SMT with 42k on it for $16k.
thats about the price range for the tsx

I just picked up an 04 with 86k on it, really nice shape. it's a great car overal and i really love driving it, and has alot of nice features for what it is...it does however still have that, i don't know, rental car sort of feeling to it compared to my bmw.....doesn't handle well and the fwd is taking some time getting used too, but for some reason i smile every time i turn the key (maybe it's the super bright gauges! lol)
Fredline where are you?
As for the 02-03 TL you have nothing to worry about. Acura fixed the trany problem on mine & it never came back.
The TSX handles much better than the TL but has alot less hp & torque than my TL-S. BTW what's the going price on the TL-S in your area? That's the reason why I asked where you are located.

The only real complaint I have with my TSX is the paint, its just so soft. If you buy it, just spend the extra money for a 3M Clearbra for the front, mirrors and rear bumper. You'll thank yourself later, trust me. Other then that I love the car, and is almost like the one you're looking at. Milano Red, 6speed, manual, 54xxx miles for $16,999. 14k is a good deal if its got a clean title

You're wrong. These are newbies that keep asking the same questions over & over again or ppl that are looking into used TL & asking about the trany issue.
The total percentage of 02-03 TL w/ trany problems represents about 1 percent of the total sold. There are lot of ppl not on these forums or they do not know one exists.

With the 04 TSX's you should be concerned about the AC compressor and the console lights. Both have been replaced on mine under warranty and this has happened to many members here. I'd say the AC compressor blows like clock work...between 40-50k miles.
I'm located up here in the Pacific NW. And much like the Coffee & Real Estate around here, the cars aint cheap! Every time I see a car on eBay being sold from TX or FL it just about makes me want to puke. The price is usually at least 20% higher in my neck of the woods.
As far as the price of '99-'03 TL around here, they average around $14,000. Seems to be plenty of '02-'03 TL-s w/around 85,000 miles for $12,000. But the tranny situation makes me way too nervous. Even w/the extended Warranty.

honestly 78k miles for an 04 is really not that much.
i've got about 35k on my 05, and i bought it at the end of 05. and i dont even drive much.
the 04 came out in the spring of 03... so if it was owned by someone who bought early , 78k for 4.5 years isnt that bad. i would consider 20k miles a year a lot of miles... and thats not even 20k a year.
i suppose it depends on how it was driven, but the drive train on a honda will probably last 200k-300k miles so there is a lot of life left.
by the way, you dont really lose much getting say an 04 over and 05. i think you dont get xm , and a power passenger seat.
Well, it SOLD before I could even go look at it...no big surprise - argh!
Went to the local auto auction last weekend as they were going to have a Silver '04 w/NAV & AT w/70k. I'll be damned if they didn't have some good deals early on as well including an '03 G35 w/76k that went for $12,000. But as soon as they got to the TSX the bidding got hot & ended at $14,000. Doesn't sound like much but you have to pay a %10 Buyer Premium on top of that price plus tax, license, etc. SO it ended up costing the bidder roughly $17,000 - about the price of a used one anywhere else around here except that the one up for bid had issues including torn leather on the pass. side dashboard, a missing gearshift knob, broken middle console & the Drivers Seat Heater wasn't working & neither did the stereo. With these issues & the fact that I could only hear it run & not drive it, etc. I was only willing to bid up to $9500.
I think the high bidder did me a favor
. So now I just keep checking the local ads & play the waiting game.
