One of my co-workers showed me how he shifted without using the clutch. He told me that people in Europe were so poor that they couldn't afford new cars. He said that that made them learned how to drive without using the clutch with those beat-up Fiat or something liked that.

Yup, MT cars can be shifted without using the clutch, using rev matching... However, good luck trying to start it or take off from a stop...

haha, that reminds me, couple years ago I gave my old car to my friend (96 VW Jetta GL) that needed some work and a new clutch. The clutch cable broke off so it stayed always pressed and he was able to drive fine without using clutch for a few days. I never asked him how he managed that, but I assumed that it damaged the transmission.
