clearing snow

Well, winter appears to be arriving We've had threads on how to *not* scratch your car in various ways, like avoiding car washes, making sure you don;t use an old sponge, and a whole slew of other anti-scratch tips. Does anybody have a recommended way to clear off snow? Snow brushes seem pretty course, and if the car isn't clean beforehand, they'll wipe the dirt all around and probably scratch my TSX. Is the best bet to just try to clear the snow attempting to not clear quite all the way down to the paint? Ideas/suggestions? Or do y'all think I'm nuts for asking about this?

All the cool kids keep a gas-powered leaf blower in the trunk for clearing off the snow.

I only clear snow from around the windows and lights.

if the snow is 3 or more inches deep on the hood and roof, I try to just knock it down to an inch or less and let the rest blow off while I drive.

lol soo many thread resurecctions lately, ice on windows use a deicer from prestone. Heavy snow on body, just use ur jacket to brush off the top layers of snow to about an inch like someone said, the warmth of the body will cause the snow to melt off while driving as well as the draft that will blow off all loose snow.

I have a beef with people that just brush off the top layer of snow. The layer that's against the car tends to halfway melt then refreeze. Then when you get on the highway, the wind gets underneath and peals the snow/ice off in big pieces. They made a law in PA last year where you can get a ticket for it after a few bad accidents were caused by people trying avoid large pieces of ice flying off other peoples cars.

Don't be a lazy asshole when it might threaten some one else's life.

I agree with the last poster. I cleanup the snow off the roof with the brush for the safety of the other drivers on road.
Best Regards,

How I envy thee. I've actually considered getting a cover for the winter but I think I'd just get tired of messing with it by about the third time. I've found I can be pretty lazy by using a bucket full of hot water. It works surprisingly well though it's probably not a good idea if it's well below freezing.

Ah, one of these days I'll build my own my house that's 3/4 garage/workshop.

I use a really soft broom. The snow brushes are way too rough.

I use the Kiwi shoe brush. Made of horse hair. Works great and doesn't scratch.
