Cleaning Interior

Hey board,

Any suggestions on how to keep the interior looking new?
I was thinking of those leather sprays you can buy to keep the seats looking sleak. Maybe vacuum a little...
But i want to know what the pro's on AZ do

- Thanx

in the off-topics section there is a wash&wax section. check it out, some really great info

most of the folks here use a variety of things, but NO ARMOR ALL

I use Lexol leather cleaner/conditioner for the leather they don't leave the seats looking shiny but leave a matte finish, almost like getting it new from the dealer.

and till now i've been using a lightly damp cloth to wipe down the dash area using microfiber towels.

good luck and welcome to the forum

"303 Aerospace Protectant" is awesome for the dash and any vinyl (back side of the seats, etc...).

Lexol cleaner and conditioner for the leather seats.

Windex and a newspaper (in place of a paper towel) works WONDERS to get the windows (inside and out) clean and streak-free. You won't believe it until you try it, but trust me here. Crumpled up newspaper will soak up the windex nicely AND make the windshield perfectly streak free.

Don't use the Windex (Blue) if you have tint....... it may turn them purple

Speaking of Lexol Leather Products, anyone know of a place that sells them in Toronto and GTA?

Ha ha! I asked the same question a few months ago.

Look up riding apparel/equestrian equipment stores in your area and ring them up. I bought them at Equine Emporium in Mississauga.

Pep Boys carries that line if one is near.

No food is allowed in my car. I use Lexol on the leather. I have been using Einszett 1Z Cockpit Premium and 1Z Plastic Cleaner on just about everything else inside for several years now. I use Stoner Invisible Glass on the windows. In the past, I used Sonus in the interior, but I like the 1Z better.

That's basically it, although, (yes, seriously), I'd stay away from color-print pages. Use the black-ink pages only. The color ones are less effective, but I have no idea why - just something I found out last week.

And about the spray you should use, I'd stay away from any Windex. One that I do like is Armor-All Auto Glass Cleaner, or Stoners Invisible Glass. They are both tint-safe and much better than the ammonia-based Windex, and they streak less.

BTW: The newspaper thing is an OLD-SKOOL detailers' trick. It's been around for ages.

To be honest I try to stay away from those interior sprayers as much as possible. I only use them probably once every 6 months. They are a necessary evil but if you use them often, I'd loose the new car smell, well whatever left of it.

So what I usually do after a carwash is to wipe it with a seperate damp towel (can't think of the name right now but its the one that you use to dry the exterior). So far the new car smell is still there, not as strong as when I first get the car. And I haven't used any freshners yet.

Hope this helps

Be careful with the newspaper on the inside. If you have parchment finish and the newspaper is wet enough it will leave ink streaks on the headliner and pillars.

You can buy newspaper without the ink...it's basically packing paper that you can pick up at U-HAUL or other moving places.
