Woa...where'd this come from?

Anyway, in essence, it WAS...it was based off of the Accord coupe, and the TL was based off of the Accord sedan.

Hey Spud -- even he himself says he's crazy!

Nice answer, Spud. I always thought of it like Craze said, but your answer is more on target.
But either really is right -- or was right!

Yes and no.

Yes, the CL is based on the Accord coupe just like Spud said. However, the Accord sedans/coupes have some big differences between them from 1998 onwards. The first Generation CL was an Accord coupe clone and had NOTHING to do with the first generation TL (the first generation TL was basically a restyled second generation Legend).

I see more Vigor in the first gen TL than Legend. Which it was in Japan...

Yeah...that or the Accord of that time. The RL was based on the Legend. Wasn't that TL too small to be based on the Legend?

Well, that's the problem -- depends on whether you mean the original Legend, or the Legend after they got done screwing it up.

I'm pretty sure the original Legend was smaller than the original TL.

P.S. (edit) Just looked it up -- yes it was.

First Legend I could find data on ('89 -- I think 1st model was '87): Length 191, Width 69

First TL I could find data on ('96 -- that may have been the 1st yr): 192 and 70

I really miss them names. Legend was classic and Integra was strong. I'm sick of telling folk that I've got a TSX and not an RSX. It should be call the Acura Shiznit or something.

What about the G2 Legend? It sure looks bigger than the TL. And while you're getting dimensions--could you find out the interior space, too?

Bigger, you're right: 195 and 71.

Interior space? I can never get too interested in that.

First of all, hasn't ever been a deciding issue for me.

Second, too many numbers.

And, I'm not confident there's any consistency on how they measure, between one model and another.

I would like to nominate the site for a name change:

i have a first gen TL and it's definitely a 2nd gen vigor. it even had the same 2.5L 5 cylinder. it also had an optional 3.2L which was from the legend.

The 2.5 TL has a slightly smaller body than the 3.2 TL. The Legend was a bit longer than the 1st generation TL, the extra inches went to the back seat.

Just to throw out some numbers...

1st generation Legend '86 - '90
2nd '91 - '95

1st generation Vigor '92 - '94
1st generation TL '95 - '98

I'm not sure if the 3.2 is based on the Legend body, it looks to be since the critical dimensions are quite similar, except for the rear legroom. The powertrain definitely is.

The 2.5 is not a Vigor body, its bigger yet somehow the same weight roughly. (3300 pounds)

The Vigor and Legend were built off the same stretched Accord platform. But the Vigor (USDM) shared the line with the high-end Honda Inspire, which became our TL during the model change.
