cheap plastic dash
So on paper the TSX looks like the perfect car for me, and I've been pretty sure this is the car I'll be buying in the future, that is until I actually sat in my coworkers TSX.
What's with all the plastic dashes in new cars these days? Am I the only one who thinks it makes the car feel "cheap?" Even my '99 Civic looks like it has a more expensive dash (not sure what it is, but definitely not plastic)..

I recently drove a Mercedes E330 as I was the best man and I was asked to be the wedding party's chauffeur (one of many dirty jobs I had to do, but someone had to do 'em) and I can honestly say THAT dash felt cheap. I prefer my TSX dash much better. Then again, I have the 06 so not sure what your co-worker's model year is so I can't speak for older models.

Yes, '99 Civic's dash is a masterpiece of the automotive engineering. Just a notch below all time best - Yugo.

yah, um, I would have to totally DISAGREE. You obviously have not sat in other new cars on the market. German VW's and AUdi's dashes applique's are adhesives. You should kiss the TSX dash as if it were gold.

So that about does it....I'm never going to you for an opinion on ANYTHING.
Funny little troll, hehe.

Ok so I think he's talking about the 'aluminum' on the darker color interiors.
The TSX is actually pretyy nice. Have you seen the IS?! If I'm not mistaken its all painted plastic.
IF you don't want the fake aluminum get a TL. I still think the TSX has a top notch Interior...

I say buy the TSX

i sat in my friends 08 legacy..
i like how they try to copy the tsxs dash.. haha hilarious.
too bad it sucked ass hooking up the parrot bluetooth kit for him..
theres no space at all
and its so inconvenient work behind the dash.. you can't even drop down the glove box
i've learned a lot with my tsx.. and i think the quality is great..
that added to the price.
good enough for me. =)
a pleasure for me to for a REAL first car.

haha look at everyone getting defensive..that's cute.
In all seriousness though the TSX is a great car, don't get me wrong. I'm talking about the material the dash is made out of - it IS plastic, or at least was in my coworkers car (not sure what year). I don't feel like going back to see who here needs lessons with reading comprehension, but there's no doubt the dash in the TSX *looks* nicer. I'm simply talking about the material. If you've ever sat in an older Civic (probably *gasp* older Acura's too) they have a softer material...I'M NOT SAYING IT LOOKS AS NICE AS THE PRECIOUS TSX, JUST FEELS MORE SUBSTANTIAL. I have no clue what it is, and the ignorant ones here will love that.
All in all this is subjective. I understand most of you guys paid $25k-$30k, hence the over-defensiveness from some of you. And I'll admit, I haven't sat in many newer cars lately (my friends are similar to me..after graduating college I felt it was more important to own a house and then worry about the nice car, hence me still driving a beater).
As for calling me a poser, troll, midget, freak of nature, etc...keep going, who cares? If it helps you feel you've "won" then go for it.

Could you elaborate on the "feels more substantial" part? The TSX uses a pretty compliant plastic material, and my 02 Civic's dashboard is much harder. Are you saying the TSX's feels cheaper to you, but doesn't look cheaper? My job involves a fair amount of industrial design, so I enjoy hearing what people think about different materials.

Wow, no opinions allowed. The silver fake aluminum is pretty cheap. I would rather have an aplique of metal than painted plastic. I agree hat he can't compare the Civic dash, but for the entry level luxury, it is cheap. The comparisons for Pontiac and subaru don't hold because they do not consider themselves luxury. As far as the VW and Audi comments, it is a night and day difference in materials. Also the wood on the Audi is not stuck on unless someone did an aftermarket kit. The dealer tried to push it on ours. Acura needs to step up the quality a little. I can take pictures of my TSX and point out numerous uneven gaps and areas where the felt gasket is poking out along the radio. I'm not sure how to touch up the scratches though. My Audi is 3 years older and has none. Mostly because it is a soft material and does not scratch.
