car washes

does anyone here not have a driveway or area/facilities to wash/detail their own car?

renting an apt in NY, i don't have access to any sort of water source (ie. hose attached to side of a building) to wash and rinse my car, nor a place to actually wash and wax unless i try to go over someone's house and borrow their driveway and water.

that said, i took my car into the local car wash to get it cleaned b/c there was a ton of dirt and mud spatters all over the wheels and the side of a car from a trip i took to PA this weekend (rained all weekend, had to drive up some wet unpaved roads). after i got home, i saw the dreaded marks that the car washe brushes leave on the surface. this was actually the first time i washed the car since i got it this past december (it's an 07 TSX, nighthawk black pearl).

so are there any alternatives here? i can obviously take it into a detail place and pay extra cash. or try shuttling buckets of water on the side of the street and wash my car. or take it to a buddy's house.

also, would a good coat of wax sort of mask some of those light scratches?

I had the same problem before I moved into a house last year. I just made use of the car wash and a friend's house with a hose. Not really too much you can do except maybe find one of those touchless car washes - not sure if they really work, though.

I have the same problem. I go to a car was that is expensive around me, they do an awesome job cleaning my car, but I'm sure there are scratches from them. I'll just have to go to Mom and Dad's to wash from now on. Not quite confident in the car washes with the Ronjon kit.

What about the self service car washing stations? You get an alotted time of jet spray of water you control yourself and soap if you want to.
