Car noise help

So I feel that I have noticed an "engaged gear" like noise when I am driving. It's the same sound you hear when you put your car in reverse but I am now hearing it when I am in 1st and 2nd gear. It doesn't sound abnormal it just sounds louder than I feel it's been and I wonder if it could be low transmission fluid. I checked it the other day and the fluid looks good but may have possibly have been low, the lighting i checked it in wasn't the best. Anyone else experience this? I have an 04 AT with 168k miles.

It possible that if you have put your car under a lot of stress like accelerating hard it might have caused wear over time and especially if your transmission fluid is low, the fluid might also has lost its properties dues to age and needs to be changed as well as the filter. Also if the transmission fluid absorbed moisture it can also damage the transmission. Whatever the problem is good luck

Is sound made when not in gear? If yes, suspect power steering (air in PS fluid).

good luck

Thanks to TexasHonda! I went ahead and changed the transmission fluid (which wasn't a bad thing) but that wasn't the culprit but after reading their suggestion, i tried the power steering fluid and the sound is gone. It really didn't look low but i siphoned out some of the old and replaced with new fluid and the sound is totally gone. Thanks again for your suggestion and help!

If PS fluid was low, it leaked somewhere. You need to find/repair leak.

good luck
