In my case the finalists were the Accord Coupe EX V6 and the TSX.
TSX won and so did I . :-)

Scary enough...I didn't look at anything else. I guess I'm just odd. Then again, I am pretty brand-loyal. Only owned Hondas, only sold them. Though I had a couple years of selling for Honda before moving on to Acura.

Same here. I have been a loyal Honda customer for quite some time. I love the efficiencies of a 4 cylinder engine, so the 6-cylinder Acuras and Hondas did not appeal to me, and neither did the Civic-based Integra or RSX.

I could not even consider the '03 Accords due to styling impairments--they are kind of like looking at bloated boats with agonizing triangles and a "buck-tooth" grill. There was a total absence of Honda harmony in those '03 Accord styles--either the sedan or the coupe. I was at a loss until the JDM/Euro Accord-variant became available here as the TSX--a return to sanity with clean trim styling.

...wasn't even looking to buy a new car yet, but when my Acura dealership let me know a new car was coming that was based on the Euro Accord, and I investigated the info, it was a done deal...there is, for me, no other choice...other than which color to get, that is still a hurdle to cross.
...anyone want to try and sway my color choice decision?

My criteria was a manual transmission and a navigation system so...

Maxima - Too much $$, poor value, ugly ass front, too big, fairly weak interior
Accord Coupe V-6 6MT - Nice but wanted a sedan, average exterior styling
G35 - Too much $$, RWD, sedan looks like ass, didn't want a coupe, cheap interior, French owned

Acura TSX
BMW 325i & xi
Honda Accord EX V-6 Coupe
Mazda 6s
Nissan Altima SE V-6

Narrowed it down to the BMW and TSX pretty quickly.

I noticed that not a single American car has been named. What a shame that our country doesn't produce any competitiors in this segment... well maybe the CTS but it's not mentioned.

Why is this laughable? The WRX is a tops auto and does the job quite nicely...

Infiniti G35 Sedan 6MT w/Navi
Nissan Maxima SE 6MT w/Navi
Acura TSX 6MT w/Navi

Right until the end, I thought that was my order of preference. I thought for sure I was going home with a G35. I went with the TSX because I grew tired of the arrogance of the Infiniti dealers in the area, because too many current G35 owners on another board reported replacing brake pads and rotors at 15K miles, because $35K is too much to pay for a Maxima (you have to load it up to get the navigation system and the sunroof is extra), and because, for roughly $7000 less, I got a car I like as much as (and, in some ways, more) the others.

Some people have told me that the WRX is too juvenile (including my parents). I can see why they would say that, but damn that car is quick! And I could get it in a wagon.

I actually had decided on the WRX. But then I drove the TSX....

I don't think the WRX is too juvenile. It's not a great looking car, but it is quite the machine.
The cars I was considering were the Saab Vector, Audi A4 1.8t, Bmw 325i, and came very close to buying the G35 coupe, until I saw the TSX and test drove it. The rest is history.

How come so few of you considered the TL-S or CL-S when choosing the TSX? How's the 6speed shifter on the car?

Nissan Altima or the Accord Coupe. I thought about the Altima first, but then I found the new Accord Coupe, though it was a trade off becuase I only liked the styling of the Accord Coupe the body kit on it and wing. Then I saw the TSX and thought it fit the bill so much better than the new Accord. I test drove the TSX and Accord back to back, even though the Accord had a V6 in it, the build quality and refinement of the TSX won me over.

I have only driven the automatic TL..There is not enough headroom in the current version of the TL for me (I am 6 ft. and my head hits the roof unless the seat is inclined). I also don't need the rear seat room or the size of such a vehicle and would trade off more responsive handling in a smaller package.

I looked at the CTS, and I was surprised how much I liked it. It had a terrific sound when you wound it out, and it felt quicker than it is. The instrument panel was really nice, although the center area of the dash was a little too glitzy, and looked cheap. The price range was the same as the loaded 04 Maxima, the 325i, the A4, and in the end I decided the price/value ratio of the TSX couldn't be beat.

Except of course by the Accord. I drove it again today because it's been a month now since I ordered the TSX, and no word when it might come in. What the Accord doesn't have is the handling, which is what attracted me to begin with.

Accord (got beat by the ugly stick -- waaah!)
A4 1.8T and 3.0 (no back seat, too expensive)
Saab 9-3 Linear (too expensive)
Mazda 6i (if the hatchback had been available, I might have bought it)
Nissan Altima 3.5SE (no headroom, no ride)
