Red face bye bye TSX, hellooooo STi!

hey guys

just want to thank everyone for being such a great help.

i barely posted any threads, but i did read and study what everyone had to say here

i've learned a lot about the TSX and just about cars in general just from reading what yall had to say

well, im trading my 04 TSX in for a 04 Subaru WRX STi.

i loved the TSX and had no problems with it.

Unfortunetly, i need a car with a little more bang and excitement.

I could of poured a few G's into the TSX to make it just that, but after thoroughly thinking it through, i decided to take that and go along with the STi.

Im giving up comfortability and luxury but in return im getting a turbo charged beast.

ill still be checking out this forum time to time.

peace in the middle east.

Enjoy the STi. I've always liked them. Be sure to come back and post your impressions of it.

Congrats on the STI.. I know how you felt about the power, but i can't see myself in those types of cars.. I need the luxury, looks, and speed.. but i'll take the luxury and looks. I'm not going to trade my car until the next gen TSX comes out. By then, i may consider moving to a TL, RDX or MDX... Have fun!

Well since you bought an 04 i'll tell you some things to look out for maintenance wise. Keep an eye on your struts they are know to have issues. Also save your money for when you need brake pads they are expensive as hell. Buy alot of extra oil, you going to need it. And don't put a BOV on. I know they make kewl sounds but people with WRX's have boost pressure issues with aftermarket BOV's. They make the car run alot leaner for one thing. Otherwise you made a good purchase.

im 21 years old. im getting 17 G's for my TSX from the dealership. It has 35,000 miles and it is in excellent condition.

the STi im getting for is 23.5 G's with 19000 miles and is also in excellent condition

So where am i getting the 6,500 to pay for it? Most 21 year olds would be getting it from their parents, but I'm a Home Loan Consultant (loan officer) so i do have my own income.

Now about your comment, when you say "buy a lot of extra oil?"

Is there a specific brand you are talking about?

What I did with the TSX was, I'd take it to my local gas station and they would do the oil change for me.

Should I not be doing that with my STi?

And I'm not planning on getting a aftermarket BOV. I test drove the car and I'm perfectly content with the way it sounds and it's performance with the stock.

I owned an '04 STi for a year and 23000 miles. (Traded it for an '05 LGT.)

Never had a single problem with it, no "strut issues", and I didn't have to add one single drop of oil between changes.

I've had many Hondas/Acuras and been very happy with their quality and reliability.
I've had three Subarus and been very happy with their quality and reliability.

Check out the latest Consumer Reports car issue - not only the 'regular' WRX but also the STi are recommended as reliable cars.

Hopefully the original poster will also have a good experience.

Im not saying that the STI is not a reliable car. I almost bought one. The problem was that I wasn't a fan of the 06 styling and there were no 05's around at the time. Then I decided I wanted a larger car so I opted not to buy it.

My cousin works as a tech at a Subaru dealership in his area. He on his own STI replaced 2 struts only after having his car 8 months. Also there are several people I work with who have 04 STI's and they too have had strut issues. My cousin said that the 04's are known to have this problem but the problem was resolved in later production.

And finally the oil issue. There are alot of STi owners who complain about the oil consumption of their engines. A couple friends of mine confirm that their motors eat up alot of oil. So just keep it around and check on it frequently.
