Cool burning an updated navigation DVD

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to burn an updated version of the navigation dvd. I have a NEC 3500A dual layer burner and i also bought Ritek dual layer dvds. My aunt has the '05 TSX and I have an '04 TSX.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

Sometimes, a software would come with the hardware. I assume this was not the case with the NEC burner you bought? I've used Veritas at work but I'm not sure if the software has been updated for dual layer DVDs.

I took the new navigation DVD and I made an image of it using the latest version of Nero. I successfully burned the image to the dual layer disc and when i insert it navigation system, it gives me a disc error.

I am just as interested as anyone in the ability to make DVD NAVI copies. However, I do think that that $139 they charge every year does go into the cost of researching and updating the database. I just want to make sure we all understand that if someone ends up being able to copy the DVD, it's still in our best interest to buy updates to support new database updates!

I don't mind paying $100 once a year or so for an updated Navi DVD anyway. Seems like a fair price for the quality Navi system I use almost ever day.

The only way I would be interested in copying the Navi DVD is if someone figures out how to add custom wallpaper, skip the warning screen, etc.

EDIT: You might want to try change the bitsetting on the DVD disc you burned to fool the Navi into thinking it is a DVD-ROM.

well the updated dvd doesn't cost 100 or 139 dollars. The actual cost is 185 plus shipping.

I don't see myself paying the ridiculous price of 185...

How and where do you change your bitsettings?

It all depends on how you are burning it.
I dont have a dvd burner. But i do have a cd burner. In order to burn the dvd successfully you need to figure out what type of dvd it is... data... movie... etc...

then once you do that, use the "wizard" inside of nero that will walk you through each step because i believe the burning process is a little different when you come across different types of media.

If you still have trouble figuring out what type of dvd it is, i believe in the nero "wizard" there is an option for an exact image.

you may want to try that.

hope this helps.

yes i also agree $185+ shipping is a little excessive. $100/ year i can see spending.

We have had a thread on this topic in the past. I think the person with a Dual Layer DVD burner said it didn't work and had tried a few times. There is probably copy protection. Speaking of which, I have a feeling that the admin of this board wouldn't want people discussing pirating software on here anyway.

i thought there was a difference between dvd+r's and dvd-roms in terms of format. even if the dvd+r is dual layer.

That could very well be the issue. If the DVD-ROM drive doesn't know how to deal with DL DVD+R's then it isn't going to work. Now DVD-R DL is coming (Plextor is beta testing DVD-R DL firmware in their PX-716 drive) and maybe they will work.

Here is an interesting article about how dual layer works...
