Unhappy Bluetooth Security problems

With the recent Bluetooth announcement for 2006 I thought some might find this interesting.

Slashdot - Bluetooth Security problems

With Bluetooth enabled, it looks as though it's pretty easy for anyone with a laptop, linux and a directional antenna to connect and listen in through the microphone of bluetooth enabled cars. Not only that...they are able to send audio as well.

According to one of the forum posters, since the HandsFreeLink system from Acura does not have a "default" code and it allows you to change it..the Acura should not be vunerable to this type of attack.

Big deal. I'll take the risk of using the HFL.

Oh that would be soo great.. I can see it now, someone with Bluetooth cuts you off and you can hack into their system to let them know exactly how much you appreciate that...

Or better yet, just mess with people on the road: "OMG, my car's possessed." Not that I would condone such a thing, expecially not to that little old lady doing 35mph on the highway in front of you in the passing lane.

Course you can use it for good too I suppose (your brake light is out) but is ohh so much more fun.

Thanks for the info and ideas: Weapon-X who's headed to the electronics shop for some supplies.

I'm aware of the security issues with the bluetooth. I'm not too worried about it. I haven't had any problems with my Nokia bluetooth kit. If someone trys to send me audio, I will just hit the kill switch on my bluetooth kit.

lol...
You can change your device's code though. So... that shouldn't be a problem anymore right? I know that most leave the codes to the default 0000.
