Bad Water Pump Noise?
Hello All,
I have been having a metal chatter noise around my serpentine belt area for a long time (Almost 3 years). I just replaced the auto tensioner and serpentine belt since the tensioner was moving like crazy when the AC was turned on, however the noise is still there. I tried to pinpoint the noise but still unsure, but I am thinking it is bad water pump bearing. I have uploaded a video. Please take a look and help me out. If it is the water pump how hard is it to replace. I looked at the service manual and it says I need to remove the crankshaft pulley.. which I don't want to do. Has anyone replaced the water pump without removing the crankshaft pulley? Any DIYs out there? Thanks in advance!

How many miles on your car? From your video, it is hard to isolate the sound. If you remove the belt and spin the water pump pulley by hand, you might be able to feel if it is rough. You do not need to do major disassembly to replace the pump. My thread on the job here:

Remove the serpentine belt and start the engine. If noise is absent you know the cause is a belt driven accessory, and inspect each by hand as suggested for roughness, resistance.
If noise is still present, then valve train noise or timing chain noise are likely. Again source the noise w/ belt off to isolate and allow close inspection w/ a stethoscope or equivalent.
good luck

Awesome thanks! I have 90k miles. I did start the engine without the belt on and didn't hear the noise. About a year ago my temp gauge went towards the hot side when I was idling, popped my and there was hardly any coolant in my reserve tank. Filled the reserved tank back up and never had low coolant ever since. I spun the pulleys, some of them have resistance like the power steering. I just ordered a new oem water pump so hopefully that fixes the issue. Thanks for the Diy kbh
