Is it bad to rev your engine in Park?

Is it bad to rev your engine in Park?

My dumbass friend blipped it to 3,000 RPM in Park. I'm still in my break-in period, too.

Will this occurence fuck over the breaking-in process?

doubt it, especially if it wasn't for long. besides, 3k isn't that high.

3k rpm? Come on now, you're just overreacting. I've already redlined mine! The key is to vary the rpms a lot and keep away from the top end of the rpm band (like under 5k). I should HOPE you've already hit 3k and your friend's "incident" wasn't the first time. 3K is nothing with this car.

Okay I understand 3K is nothing, but this is while in Park. Shouldn't this effeect the tranny in any way?

Don't worry. The TSX has a fuel cut-off above 5000 rpm in park to prevent over rev. I think the system was primarily designed for people like your friend.

Just wanted to know.. it's a brand new car and I came from driving a 5spd so I don't know much about automatics..

3,000 ?? dont baby it. You can rev these cars(hondas and acuras) very high. it doesnt matter if your in park, neutral or drive

No you didnt' do any damage to the tranny. If you were in park, the engine is pretty much reving alone by itself.
Now... 3000 rpms isn't too bad. However, i wouldn't rev it very high when it's not in gear because there's no weight on the engine. Freereving too high is not too good. But 3000 is not high at all.
