Is it bad to rev your engine in Park?

My dumbass friend blipped it to 3,000 RPM in Park. I'm still in my break-in period, too.

Will this occurence fuck over the breaking-in process?

3k rpm? Come on now, you're just overreacting. I've already redlined mine! The key is to vary the rpms a lot and keep away from the top end of the rpm band (like under 5k). I should HOPE you've already hit 3k and your friend's "incident" wasn't the first time. 3K is nothing with this car.

Don't worry. The TSX has a fuel cut-off above 5000 rpm in park to prevent over rev. I think the system was primarily designed for people like your friend.

I think this just goes to prove that young kids shouldn't own nice new cars since they have no clue about anything!

Reving an engine in park is like reving an engine it neutral -- nothing wrong with it. Calm down.

Now if your friend were to neutral drop it, that would be a different story.....

This is why I recommend requiring a course in basic car mechanics and maintenance for all high school students

I'm sure the car can be sold for parts.
;o)
Seriously (as they say in the psychiatric hospital), there can be absolutely no harm to your car from what your friend did. Absolutely none.
Enjoy your new TSX!

Revving the engine in Park? All it does is scare all the squirrels. No worries.

No you didnt' do any damage to the tranny. If you were in park, the engine is pretty much reving alone by itself.
Now... 3000 rpms isn't too bad. However, i wouldn't rev it very high when it's not in gear because there's no weight on the engine. Freereving too high is not too good. But 3000 is not high at all.
