When I was driving at night a few days ago after getting a jump, I noticed warning indicator lights on my dashboard turn on and all the electric functions go off one by one (speedometer, odometer, headlights, etc). Then, the car suddenly died on me in the middle of the road and I had to have it towed. What could possible be the cause of this problem? I had noticed slow engine cranking and starting for a few days but the charging system indicator never turned on. So I never suspected alternator failure. As for the battery, it is less than a year old and the testing showed it is still good. Can the battery light (charging system indicator) some how fail to detect alternator malfunction? Or is this problem related to blown alternator fuse?

 

Forgot to mention. I have a 2004 TSX.

Same reason i never trust the stores saying "your battery tested good"

oh yeah? then explain why i got a new battery and have no issues ?

 

I just had this issue on my 06 TSX a few months ago. The alternator failed and it drained the battery while driving until the TSX died on the side of the road. I took out the battery and charged it a home. I was able to get the car started with a charged battery to drive it to Firestone to replace my alternator (after they did an electrical test to make sure it was just the alternator). A battery charger/maintainer is faster and cheaper than a tow.

 

Was your charging warning light illuminating on startup? It is conceivable that the bulb failed.

 

check the voltage with a multimeter
