Automatic locking system?

In the previous cars I've driven... when I turn on the engine, the car automatically locks the doors. When I turn off the engine, the car unlocks the doors. I guess this may be because of the alarm system. I asked the dealer Acura guys about whether I can do that for my TSX, to program the car so it can lock/unlock when I start or turn off the engine?

Here's their response
"I think there's a way to program the TSX, but I don't know how. I heard you can make it so when you shift to park, it unlocks the doors, when you shift to drive it locks automatically"

... but I found nothing on the menue that mentioned about it. Any ideas? Maybe I have to get an aftermarket alarm to do this huh?

This has been discussed a lot on this forum. There is no auto-lock function like the one you are talking about. There is an aftermarket module sold by KP Technologies that will allow you to add this feature. I actually bought the module but haven't installed it yet. Don't confuse the feature whereby if you use the fob to unlock your car, and you don't open the door in 30 sec it re-locks, with the auto-lock. Not the same thing.

I think someone asked the same thing a couple of days ago. Supposedly, KP Technologies has an auto lock/unlock module that works with the Accord (so possibly with the TSX). Try there or check their forums.

EDIT: Rocket_man beat me to it. I believe it was him that was asking.

This is ridiculous. I remember my uncle's 1996 Caravan had this feature (when it goes above a certain speed, anyways.)

What gives, Acura?

This is one of the biggest and most annoying flaws (though not many) that the TSX has.

If it doesn't have auto locking/unlocking doors then it should at least have a feature the door unlocks when you pull the handle from inside to open the door when getting out. It's pretty hard to get used to when you drove a previous car that had atleast that.

I'm sure in a few more weeks I'll get used to having to push the unlock button on the door to get out but be nice if the door automatically locked/unlocked........ok done venting

I've had loaners in which the doors locked when I was in first gear and exceeded 10 mph. I dunno WTH that's for, it's not like I'm going to open the door while I'm driving. Just my .

I've never been a fan of the German style door locks where you have to pull the door handle to unlock it so I suspect Acura doesn't do it as a matter of preference. The only thing that I would like about it is the door lock peg could then go flush with door and I wouldn't stab myself in the funny bone with it at the drive through all the time.

I happen to like the feature, but I'm at a loss as to why Acura never incorporated it into its vehicles... my 1996 HONDA Accord EX had the feature...

HAHA...I had a friend in my TSX recently for the first time. And he noticed that the doors didn't open with I turned off the car and immediately commented that the Civic did do that. I didn't have a thing to say in rebuttal but knew that it would be someone on this forum and lo and behold!!!

Yeah...this needs to be addressed by Acura. I wonder why they'd put it on a Civic but not a TSX. Strange!

Because its such a strain to let go of the wheel with your left hand and actually reach for that "lock/unlock" button at the front of the armrest.

I kid, I kid

^^ I agree with Jan, its not a issue for me. Hit the lock switch on the armrest and you and your hot female passengers are ready to go!

I'm getting used to it and it honestly didn't bother me until someone else mentioned it. And I was more annoyed that this person would even say anything than I was about the feature. Like, my car is a trillions times better than your Mazda 3. Shut the f*ck up!

KP has two modules for this.
I plan on getting and installing them both.

One is to lock the car 6 seconds after the ignition is turned on.
You can get a thing to add so it won't lock open doors though.

The second one is an add on to the first one, and it changes it from the
6 second lock to a speed sensitive lock. So when you hit a certain speed,
that you set ahead of time, probably about 20, it'll lock the doors.

Just like all the american cars I've been in forever now...

Now it's time to modify those lock pegs so they're flush when locked, as
said above.... That's really annoying.

The only thing that keeps me from doing that is the fact that if the car were to lose power, you wouldn't be able to open the door. So if you got into an accident and car was on fire or something and you had no power (increasingly likely if your car is on fire)... well, that would suck.

Yeah, it's an unlikely situation but I'm not willing to compromise on safety issues.

^^ You can keep a pair of needle-nose pliers in the car. But, that's an added weight...

Things missing on our TSX's, but of which my 07 Civic EX coupe (commuter car) has:

- auto locking/unlocking doors
- speed-sensitive auto-volume control
- MP3 CD playability with Track/Title display
- one touch open/close moonroof
- subwoofer

Hmmm...are you sure about no subwoofer? The bass response in my TSX is pretty damn good. Then again, I don't know if it's a sub or just kick-ass speakers...

Yes, he's sure.
So am I.

I'm guessing you've never had a system in your car.
I personally would in no way consider the speakers in the TSX great.
Or even above average for stock cars for that matter.

There is certainly no chance that any stock TSX has a sub.

The manual door lock post won't work?

Hm, I see. Well you're right about the fact that I've never had a system in my car - I bought my '05 TSX in January. No mods so far, but I'm going to get it tinted soon. [moves to the 'tint' threads].

We were talking about modding the post so it sits flush with the door. I'd be all about it if there were still a way to unlock the door sans-juice.

we could get out the back seats if there was a fire.
we would just leave the back seat ones up a bit...

I'm actually going to look into this.

It depends on how you define "subwoofer". The rear shelf 6x9 speakers only receive low frequency signals from the head unit. I don't know what their frequency response curves look like but they're supposed to act like a sub.

Ughhh Honda confuses me sometimes. They like to be funny and leave certain things out of their cars. Like how apperantly the 96 Accord has the auto-lock feature but my moms 2007 Accord Ex-V6 doesnt
It's a feature on my TL that I like, same withthe auto moon roof. Couldn't stand that button on my moms Accord.

Another thing I wished we had was psi readouts for all tires through the TPMS..their system could've very well handled it, instead they just have it output "OK." WTF does OK mean? My friend's 08 TL has it, no reason their other close-to-$30k car shouldn't..

The 2008 TSX does show your the psi information. You just have to hit the other button to see it. The one that is not the "i". I think it says "select" or "reset". I'll have to dig up my manual but it definitely does do it.

So when you press the i, and get to the TPMS screen that shows the OKs, then hit the button below i. You'll see the numbers for all 4 tires.: thumbsup:

Not to go OT, but just fyi... VW Jetta/Passat pegs (last gen) worked as direct replacements. They had the same thread, and were *just* the right length. A few blokes on this forum or the other did the mods about 2 years back, and they worked like a charm. The hardest part was actually unscrewing the current pegs.
