Auto Transmission fluid change

The owners manual says that the first automatic transmission fluid change is to be done at 120,000 miles. Should it not be done sooner?

I just did mine at 120,000 kms.. Are you sure its not in kilometers? I wouldnt go 120k miles without a change. Every 30,000kms is ideal for me.

Was it done by a dealership or a private shop? What fluid did they use? I have 51K on the 06 beast and have never once even thought to change the fluid. I really have to get better with some of this maintanance.

I did mine at Honda dealer, Honda/Acura use the same fluids type as its stated in the manual. That was my first Transmission fluid change at 70K mileage and the technician said the fluid was dark. lol I totally forgot to change it since i bought it used.
If you didn't do it, get it done. Change the transmission fluid every 30K.

Remember for all fluids and oil, Honda/Acura are the same. For the PARTS, they ARE NOT...

Thanks. Would you recommmend a drain and fill atthis point or a flush given my mileage (51K) and the fact that I have done nothing yet?

it would good to change it. I did it at 45K and for the long run its good. Its more like a preventive maintence.

Yes you're at 51k already, definitely drain and refill it. It is recommended to be changed at every 30K..By the way, Honda and Acura charge the same rates for their labor. I just found it out when i run around, not a bad idea ..

You are okay, do keep your transmission clean like your engine. They both use oil to lubricate the engine components and transmission gears.

Just changed mine at 29.5k. Only did a single fluid change (and made a mess of the garage floor).

I recently did the auto transmission fluid change around 38k miles. Its a pretty simple drain and fill procedure that I did myself and used about 3 quarts of Honda ATF.

I read in another thread that the Acura method is a drain/refill/drive cycle 3 times. Sounds expensive. I'm going to have my next oil change and transmission fluid change at a dealer, either Honda or Acura. I guess my credit card balances are too low...

I'm surprised you're the first (in this thread anyway) that I saw to mention the drain/refill/drive 3 times method. I would have assumed it's fairly common knowledge here (it's been around for a long time), but since it evidently isn't, it's the method Honda and Accura uses, and the only way to get most (which is all you're gonna get) of the fluid changed. Also, be careful on the flush thing. Honda/Acura uses a proprietary method I think. You may want to do a search, there's been allot written about it here. If I remember correctly, some flush methods can damage the transmission. And on the change intervals, I think you'd find that every 60K seems to be the consensus figure (more often is basically a feel good measure)(although as mentioned in the thread I think, my 05 maintenance manual specifies a change at 120K).
