Auto to Manual Conversion?

I have a 04 TSX 5AT and want to swap to Manual. Has anyone on here done the conversion before? About how much do parts cost? I can do the work myself.

Thanks in advance!

$5k+ in parts at a minimum. Not worth it. Trade the 5AT in on a 6MT.

well, i can get a tranny/ecu for $1k...and i bet the other parts would be a pain to locate

I'll have to try and sell the car...and hope the manual is still available or find someone who wants to trade (unlikely)

thanks for the replies!

You would kill any resale value. I wouldn't touch the car if I knew it had been modded in any way. Ecspecially something that major that is NON-FACTORY.

I agree. You be better off getting a manual instead of doing the conversion. I don't think it'll be as crisp in shifting as the ones that come with the manual.

BTW,Why would that occur?

OP: If you can find the necessary parts that are good in quality and in low in price, and you have the resources to to the install, meaning you can find an alternative mode of transportation until you finish your conversion, by all means Godspeed, jsmooney, godspeed.

does anyone know if the engine harness has any major differences between the auto and manual? i know the auto harness probably has more plugs and stuff, but i would assume you could use that with the manual as long as you have a manual ECU. who knows - the car may be able to tell some way.

the next obstacle is finding all the shift parts and shift linkage - i think that would be a royal pain.

any suggestions on where to source the parts? i dont think wrecked manual tsx's are just sitting around in junkyards

I did this back in 06. I found the car I wanted with similar mileage to the one I had. Gave the dealer $1200 and I had my 6MT.

At least you can still drive in 'M' to get your fix... sort of.

Pretty sure there's no easy way to make an A/T engine harness work properly with an M/T. The countershaft speed sensors are in different locations between the two transmissions. Not to mention the M/T has a backup light switch mounted on the trans case itself, while the A/T uses the switch under the console. Also the M/T has a reverse lockout solenoid on the shift housing with a plug connecting it to the PCM. Without a wrecked donor car to get all of the parts you need, you're going to spend a huge amount of time and money sourcing all the components you'll need.

This guy did it on a 2nd gen TL. It'd be about the same amount of work and cost https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/6-speed-conversion-591872/
