Anyone get an extended warranty on your Tsx?

I was going to, but I didn't get one, do you think it's good to get an extended warranty?

I am going to own this car for more than 4 years.. so I got extended warranty. U can look at warrantydirect.com, and chat with the salesperson directly. They are very helpful.

I haven't (yet) because it doesn't cover the clutch, rattles and maybe not even the manual transmission if the "problems" posts are any indication.

You can purchase the Acuracare extended warranty at a discount online if your car has less than 56,000 miles and is less than 54 months old. Not an endorsement but one source is: http://www.curryacuracare.com/index.cfm# Do a search for the best price.

For my own car I'll see what happens over the next few years and then make my decision.

Good, bad, or ugly, I purchased the extended 100,000 mile warranty from Acura. I plan on driving/keeping the TSX until the wheels literally fall off of it.

Per my Economics and Finance traning in college, the Extended Warranty from a reputable seller (ie Honda/Acura) is a waste of money. My wife bought it for her CR-V in 2000 and has never used it although she has 3 years left on it and 50k more miles to use.

However, to me it was worth it for piece of mind after the standard 50,000 mile warranty expires, meaning I will sleep better at night knowing I have it.

It will be worth it to me in Texas if the AC Compressor goes out one summer after the 50k warranty has expired. I have also heard stories about unreasonable dealers honoring claims. I will deal with that when the time somes.

The standard warranty on a Honda is 3 years or 36,000 miles. Was there a dealer warranty or certified warranty?

I think extended warranties should be evaluated on a case by case basis. I didn't get one but I do not plan on owning my TSX more than 2 years. Odds are I won't have it past next fall.

Copied from the Acura web site:

Our commitment only begins with the delivery of each vehicle. All new Acura vehicles and any dealer-installed accessories are covered by a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty, while the outer body is covered by a 5-year/unlimited-mile limited warranty against rust-through. (See your Acura Dealer for details of each warranty and applicable exclusions, such as normal wear and ordinary maintenance items.)

Extended Warranty
I purchased an additional warranty coverage that extended the above stated warranty out to 100,000 miles or 2008.

You must be leasing if you are not planning on keeping the TSX longer than (2) years. On an out-right buy you must either be putting a large amount down or dealing with a lot of negative equity carry-over on the next trade.

I thought you were still commenting on your wifes CR-V. I did a 60 month purchase, no down. I should be even or a little negative by fall. I got an excellent deal because I worked at an Acura dealership. Missouri allows for a sales tax credit so that won't be a huge issue. I'll evaluate my situation this fall.

I read my post again and I was not clear. She purchased the 100k warranty as well on a 2000 CR-V. It has 53k on it and it just over 1/2 way through the ext war. The car has not been in the delaership for anything, period. That is a good thing.

Sounds like you got a great deal on your TSX. I must say that my 8-9 hours in the dealership was not as pleasant.

If I remember correctly, I think the person in the finance office told me that if I got the extended warranty and then never used it, that I could get my money back. Not sure how that would, work but it might be worth looking into.

Really, that is quite interesting. I will have to check into that aspect.

KC 2004 TSX, can you confirm or deny this?

If you drive the car for the life of the warranty but never make a claim you are SOL. If you trade/sell/total your car before the warranty limit you normally can get a prorated refund. Call the warranty company to get the exact info.

I have the standard 4/50k mile warranty, my dealer didn't offer an extended warranty. However, I don't really think I will keep this car for more than 5 years though.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking. I could not see them refunding it at the end of the term if you did not use it.

I'm not a big fan of extended warranties. Like most kinds of insurance, it's like you're betting something will go wrong, and I don't think that's likely with a product like Honda/Acura. I was naive when I purchased my 1990 Honda Acord Coupe and paid an extra $750 for the extended warranty. Just traded it in last week for my TSX (woo-hooo!) with 143k miles. Never needed anything but routine service/maintenance in all the 13 years I drove it.

But it's not like it was free, then, because you've lost the time-value of the money. And if you don't believe me, mind lending me some cash, interest-free?

I got the extended warranty. I will put about 27K-30K on a car per year and I can't be having things break and have to pay for them. This is a must for me! I thank God I had extended it on my 97 Lude. At 60k I had to have a full tranny replacement and the stock headunit was replaced 4 times. These among other various small items were replaced under the Hondacare warranty. I would have been SOL if I would have had to pay for the tranny!

I recommend the Acuracare extended warranty! It is worth it!

Racergirl,
Was you '97 Lude a 4AT or 5MT? I ave a '99 with the 4AT & extended warranty that ends on March 9, 2004 - 5 yrs/100000 miles. Currently I have 53000 miles on the car and am worried somewhat about the auto tranny. I have changed the fluid every 15000 miles. What were your inital tranny failure symptoms if you don't mind telling me. Thanks.

I got the same speech when they sold me the car. They said if I don't make a single claim, I get the money spent on the warranty back.

They also threw in this entire book of stuff like discounts of oil changes, blah, blah, blah. Unfortunately, I couldn't justify it at the time - was already dropping down $28,000+ in cash.
