Any Other 5AT Drivers Do This Yet?

I've owned my MSM/Auto for about a month and a half now- have 850 miles on it. Anyway, two times now while in "D" I've knocked it into Neutral, thinking I was in sportshift mode. Of course instinct makes me immediately jam it back into "D". Both times were under average acceleration. That can't be good for the tranny...

Anyway, just wondering if I'm the only bonehead that's done this-twice!

Twice only? I've done it many times now. I have 9000km in 3 months and I did that all the time. The reason for that is I am too much used to the sports shift and forgot that in the stop and go tracffic, I would usually leave it in the D.

i've done it.. just let the revs drop back down a little before you put it back in D and it shouldn't do anything bad.

Its designed so that you can throw it into neutral in a panic stop situation. Don't worry about it.

I did it on accident to a Milano Red TSX 5AT I drove during a test drive back in May. I thought I put it in the sportshift mode too, but my bad.

Yup, a few times as well. I tend to use D only in the parking lot and sometimes forget when pulling out into the street that I haven't switched to M.

Another SS question: When slowing down, do you downshift manually, or let the car do it? If you shift, at what speeds? I shift from 5>4 at 60 (km/h) and 4>3 at 40, and let the car pop it back to 1 on the stop (it skips 2). If I'm doing a "rolling stop sign" I need to shift down to 2, otherwise the car stays in 3. Still, sometimes I forget (such as in a hard stop) and the car shifts down anyway.

Speak of the devil- I did it again tonight!! 3 times now... At least this time I didn't instinctively put it back into drive until the RPMs dropped a bit.

To answer your question kiteboy, I usually let the car downshift for me. Every now and then just for fun I'll do it. I also pretty much shift as soon as the limiter will let me (since I'm still in my break-in). I find myself a lot of times hitting the shifter forward in 4th trying to get it to go into 5th- I guess my RPMs are a bit too low. I know the owner's manual gives info about when it will let you up/downshift, but I don't remember what it said...
