Another J.D. Powers ranking.....but this i wasn't expecting

This ranking of customer satisfaction from J.D. Powers really surprised me...

http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/new...asp?ID=2006250

I really thought Acura would be at the very top. I'm very satisfied with my car, although i think dealerships and some car salesmen are sketchy and untrustworthy...especially after they sell you the car.

"Overall customer satisfaction is measured based on five factors: dealership facility, salesperson, paperwork/finance process, delivery process and vehicle price."

Let them have that crap, to me it's about the car itself...not the ancillary acitivities

wow... just above the average, not great. But then again, you know something is wrong with the whole concept when Jaguar comes out with the highest score, followed by Cadillac and Lincoln? Maybe the grandpas that buy those cars rate easier than us?

Based on your last statement, why are you surprised. The survey was
"J.D. Power and Associates Reports:
Customer Satisfaction with the New-Vehicle Sales Process Reaches Record Levels as Dealers Strive to Be in Better Sync with the Needs of Their Customers"

It has nothing to do with how satisfied you are with your car, only with the sales process. Not surprising is that Honda & Toyota are below the industry average. I guess they can afford to sacrifice sales satisfaction when they're battling to sell their vehicles in record numbers. It's not 'how' you get them out of the showroom, it's just 'get' them out of the showroom.

Jaguar has to kiss your butt to buy their vehicles...it's a Ford, isn't it?

Jaguar salesmen have little to do since they cannot unload those lumps, so I assume those guys got lots of time to sell their product even on weekends.

If you browse the Problems & Fixes subforum you'll see quite a number of people complaining about rattles, squeaks ( I have one ), "warped" rotors, shifting driver's seat (I have this too ). I'm not surprised that this would translate into a less-than-perfect customer satisfaction score.

Most dealerships...like jag ones will give you incentives to mail them your JD power surveys when you buy a new vehicle. Lexus will give you a $400 gift card or upgrade if you let them fill out your JD power survey, as they asked to do so when I bought mine a few years back.

JD power surveys are not a real representation of satisfaction IMO because of these practices.

I consider Acura to be one step below Lexus in every aspect and Lexus is top of the line of course.

Isn't there a JD Power survey/award for every imaginable metric concerning autos? Pick any car...I'm sure it has some sort of "Best small-to-medium sized front-wheel drive sport-sedan with Bluetooth" award. I take these with a grain of salt.

I don't put a lot of stock in this particular metric -- I'm not taking the dealership home with me for 7-8 years. The margin of difference is also exaggerated in this chart. The diff between Jag and Acura is less than 7%. Grading on a curve, it's like getting an "A-" instead of an "A", with Mitsubishi getting a solid "B".

Not trying to have sour grapes, my experience with both Lexus and Volvo has been better than with Acura in terms of dealerships. In terms of car, however, the Lexus and Acura have been similar (very very good) and the Volvo, well, not.

That has nothing to do with the 'sales satisfaction index' which this thread is about.

Well at least the people at my Acura dealership actually seem to like kids of all ages. If the Lexus guys don't want my family there, well, you can't switch their traction control off, anyway.

I am not surprised because the local dealership I went to (when I was shopping for my 04 TSX) was incredibly rude. In fact, the sales person I dealt with was SLEAZY!!! There was only ONE in Cleveland then. I was so mad that I drove to Akron to buy my TSX. They were so nice and pleasant there in the Akron dealership! Now there is a second Acura dealership in the Cleveland area, I hope the salespeople at the original one will be much nicer now!

Wow, you can't generalize a statement more than this one!
