Hi All,
My first post. I purchased a Milano Red 6MT slightly used 10 days ago with 5900 km on the clock. I got the car at an Acura Dealership just west of Toronto. I absolutely love the car!. I test drove a lot before choosing including a BMW 325i, Volvo s60, Nissan Altima 3.5, Maxima, Accord V6, Maxda6, Camry V6 and Lexus IS300. The latter was nearly a purcase for me but I need the 4 doors and passenger space for the wife and 2 teens to ride with me.
The dealership told me they did the first oil cahnge before the sale, but when I checked today, the oil was brown, so I had it changed today and the guy concurs that this is likely the first oil change for the car!
This website is great for getting tips and info on the car. The rattles and the transmission failures freak me out a bit. Enough for me to purchase the extended warranty on major componenets to 7years/160000 Kms.
Anyway, all for now.
Merry Christmas to all and safe driving. I wish I could join the crew for the LA show. It will be cool to see all the TSX's arriving together.
Cheers.

The MT TSX participants on this forum are the core diehard enthusiasts that disproportionately form the backbone of this forum.
Several months ago, we did a poll on MT and AT participants. Although we still do not have precise break-downs between AT and MT TSX sales in North America, the general consensus is that AT's outsell MT's.
HOWEVER, our admittedly unscientific poll on this forum showed a disproportionately high percentage of MT participants (compared to overall sales) on this forum. That people even participate on this forum simply suggests particular enthusiasm for and interest in cars and driving. (I am sure statisticians are cringing big time! I don't care.)
To me an AT in a car makes it more of an appliance. When I rent a car, it's always AT. Along a similar vein, I appreciate that my washing machine automatically changes cycles. MY CAR, however, is NO appliance. I like the control, the feel, the engagement, the interaction, and the connection of driving manual transmission vehicles. For me the least reason to get MT is to get a little more "oomph" than an AT. The "oomph" factor is not significant. It's immaterial for daily driving.

Manual is clearly the way to go. If you are buying a performance oriented car, why would you compromise that very essence with an automatic? Then again, my commute, while 78 km, is on highway and then minor roads, with little traffic. If I were in an urban setting with stop and go traffic, I might have second thoughts.
We have to acknlowledge also that our purchase is not all performance either, as we have a combination of performance and luxury vehicle and that is why we don't claim bragging rights to top numbers in acceleration or slalom, but hands down you can't beat this car for the best compromise in both sectors and especially at the price we pay!

I would like to be clear that I am not criticising those who bought the 5AT. I am but relaying my perceptions of MT vs AT.
But for an MT diehard--and I admit at the full risk of passing judgement--I cannot imagine quite the same driving experience in a comparison of the 6MT to the manual mode 5AT. Perhaps, the 5AT is a compromise to suit those with spouses who want AT, AT, AT?
For me, manual mode AT will never be a suitable substitute for MT. OK, I can think of a scenario: If I were to become crippled in the legs or feet but could still drive, I would certainly and wholeheartedly opt for AT. AT is certainly better for cripples, yes?

Can't wait to drive
I think MT drivers are usually car enthusiasts, so they participate in the forums more.
AT drivers who are enthusiasts are either forced to get AT due to their sposes, or drive a signficant amount in stop-n-go traffic.
I commute daily about 15 miles in stop-and-go traffic. There are days when I drive home from a long day's work that I wished I had an automatic, but driving that last mile out of traffic makes the MT worth it
I've driven both the AT and MT TSXes and the AT feels much more muted

MT the only way to drive.
