Ahhhhhh major Disappointment with my 06
I checked in with the dealer on Thursday to make sure everything was okay with my TSX arrival which should have been today and ready for my pickup on return from my vacation this coming Friday.
He said sorry I have some bad news for you. Somehow Acura has lost my TSX. The dealer had all the information on when the TSX was going to arrive at the docks and when it was suppose to arrive at the dealers and all of a sudden it is gone. To make matters worse there won't be another silver TSX arrive for quite a while.
Being in Hawai I didn't get into a big angry discussion, I will save that for my arrival home. I'm now going to be a proud owner of a black TSX but not until sometime mid to late December.
I can't express to you how disappointed I am.
Excited

I debated hard on the second colour choice. I chose black because that is what was my original second choice. Here in Hawai there is a lot of white cars and some of them, look pretty great. I have liked the look of white TSX's. I wasn't sure if the "yellowing" of the white cars was a old wives tale or reality.
I'm ticked about the disapperance of my TSX as likely some influential person in Vancouver has hijacked it.

I do hope to translate my disappointed into some kind of price reduction. It was a happy car buying experience until this. It also put a little dampner on my vacation.

Colin, I was going to drop by your dealership but I called and all of the 06 TSX's are gone. Colin maybe you can shead some light on how a car can disappear.
Aloha everyone.

If you have the VIN of the silver car I'd runa car fax report in a few weeks, just before you pick up the black one. If the silver one has shown up somewhere, I'd be asking for some money, especially if it shows up in Hawaii.

I've had the PWP TSX for almost 2 years and I don't see any "yellowing" of the plastic parts vs. the painted body sheet metal. The PWP is a pearl color so it has a yellow tint to it. I like it because in direct sunlight it looks white whereas at night it looks creamy.

Excited, that's terrible news, I'll bet you're really upset. Something's fishy, as others have stated, how do you "lose" a car in this computer age, it wouldn't happen. They must have a VIN# and if it's lost why wouldn't they assume it will be found within few days. It must have been on the boat!!!
The good news is the car is awesome and it will be worth the (extended) wait. The navi is great, I went to a museum in Washington State today and when I left home I entered the address and it took me right to their front door hassle free. the only thing it didn't aleviate was the long wait at customs. I'm sure your car will show up, hang in there.
Enjoy what's left of your vacation.

Man that TOTALLY SUCKS. I would be really mad. I would look into the VIN like others have mentioned. You should demand a price reduction or tell them to give you all the accessories that you ordered for free or something. Some type of discount/price reduction. Maybe ask to have a TL or an 05 TSX as a loaner as you were expecting your car by whatever date and now you have no transportation,.hehehe.
Hope things are resolved in an acceptable fashion dude.

Dude that's totally bogus!! that is why I'm waiting to get my 06 TSX around March/April timeframe....sounds like your stealership sold it to somebody who can fork over the $$ to whomever they can sell the car and provide a good profit margin. How many stealership you got in your area?? Not into big heated argument....well, just make it simple and sweet - get your deposit and go to another stealership and make your deal.

When I got my 04, it was hard to get certain combonations, in particular anything with a 6spd. I had to settle on the color I wanted with out navi. and pay more then I would have for a few other colors and wait an additional month to get it - to get it with navi. it was going to take an extra 6 months and I still might not get the color I wanted.
Moral of my story is, even though I don't have navi. and I wanted it and I was initially disappointed with the situation, I am still very happy nearly 2 years into my ownership and the extra wait is all but a distant memory. I've owned about 30 or so cars in my life so far, and this is the best one - and it is hardly the most expensive!
I hope you are as happy with your car as I am with mine when you finally get it.

I would ask the dealer to investigate. Ordered cars are often "lost" aka resold to other buyers. That is how I got mine.
Someone in Houston ordered a 2005 CGP with ebony interior and navi. The dealer had 2 other cars identical to this one. When I wandered around the back lot I found this specific one wrapped in plastic and with the paint protection still on it. When I inquired my saleman about it I was told it just arrived and was removed from the dealers computer inventory system because it was a special order and already sold. He then referred me to the other 2 identical TSXs on the lot already unwrapped and prepped to drive home in.
I made it clear I wanted the TSX still wrapped and sealed, any substitution would be a deal breaker. I recorded its VIN# and a few minutes later we agreed the car would be mine. The person who ordered would get one of the cars already on the lot.
Honestly I dont see anything that was special ordered about mine, nothing extra or different. The other two were CGP, Ebony, Nav. They had 10-12 miles on them. Mine had 7 when I took delivery from the dealer after doing thier safety test drive.
The point is I got someone's ordered car. It happens. I dont know what the dealer told the other buyer about thier ordered car, but I also didnt have to pay a premium price to get thier car. I paid $29,500 drive out including all TTL and fees. Thats about $27,300 before taxes and fees here.

Definately sold it to someone that offered a higher price and paid cash.
Sorta knew someone that did that...wanted an M3....walked into the dealership told them what color they wanted and got the car in a few days. He took some other person's order since he paid cash for it and paid the MSRP ....

You know. sometimes the "all dealers are pond scum" arguement gets pretty tired. To me, it's kinda like the chicken and egg problem. I couldn't tell you how many times someone comes in with a trade and swears it's never been in an accident..... or gets the trade appraised one day and comes in the next day with 3 bald tires.... or a different radio. The point is, funny things happen on both sides of the table.
Excited, your situation is strange and a little troubling. There is such a thing as an "in transit" trade where dealers can swap inventory BEFORE it arrives. This way, I can get a Milano Red without having to wait 3 months to order one. The most likely scenario, is someone (in the dealership) accidentally traded your incoming car. They might have received a request from another dealer, and without knowing (the black was sold) allowed the trade to happen.
If the car was already made ond on the way, you might have a VIN to track. If not, there is an order number they might be able to use.
In our store, when you have a deposit on an incoming car (I have three now) the customer has 2 days after the car arrives, to come in and complete the transaction. After that, we reserve the right to sell the car to someone else. This is clearly spelled out on the deposit form that both parties get a copy of. We had a situation back in '99 on the TL when the waiting list was 30-40 names long. A customers on order car came in, he was repeatedly called (with no reply)for a few days, and we finally sold the car. What happened? Naturally, he came in the next day and was livid. That's when we put the 2 day rule in writing. It's to protect both parties.
Don't get me wrong, if my client's car came in, and they were on vacation, I wouldn't sell it unless I never got a response to my calls or e-mails. With communication, we're flexible on the 2 day rule.

What Colin said about the swap is probably what happened. This is how I'm getting my TSX - hopefully tomorrow or latest tuesday.
The black on black TSeXy I ordered was initially going to the Acura dealership in Calgary, AB. - Silverhill - as they were going to give me the best deal and well I didn't want to put 600kms+ on it right off the bat so I made a deal with the Regina dealership and they basically re-routed the car from Calgary to Regina.
I'm hoping it actually makes it there today and they stay open late tomorrow as I've gotta rent a trailer and drive almost 2 hrs to pick it up (I don't wanna put 250kms on it right off the bat heh.)

Wow sorry to hear that. I have to agree with everybody here, I think they sold your car for a higher price. I have a relative who is a car dealer and he told me that some dealers will do this if they get a substantially better offer.
I would demand that they shave a bit more off the price or throw in some goodies as a gesture of goodwill other wise I would take my business elsewhere. Any reputable business that wants to keep their customers and reputation will do this.

Sorry to hear that Excited. Certainly seems odd that they would "lose" a car, especially since I'm sure they would have had confirmation that the car would have indeed been shipped from the coast. Its also suspect they would claim they don't have access to any other silvers as well. Certainly seems that they "know" what other cars and colors are arriving.
Was it Dave King's Southside or Westside?

Your car was never "lost". Thats just the conveniet excuse (although not a very good or creative one at that) your delear gave you. As everyone has said what most likely happened is that the car arrived at your dealer. Before they contacted you, someone else was on the lot looking to buy a TSX like the one your ordered. This individual was probably willing to pay a higher price for your car than you negotiated. So they simply sold it to them instead because they were wiling to buy right then and there. Is this right, NO!! But is it a common practice among dealers.

The least you can do is write a complain letter to Acura. You might not have any recourse with the dealer, but Acura WILL listen to you and they will not be pleased with the dealer's actions. Furthermore, they will definitely be able determine what happened to the car.
Write a nice long letter expressing your disappointment, inconvenience at having to wait longer and not have your choice of color for the car you will own for several years, and especially the fact that the dealer obviously LIED to you and that this severaly tarnishes Acura's image in your mind.
You might get some free stuff out of it.

Ask them what they are doing to "find" your "lost" car. Don't settle for a second choice. Make as much noise/trouble as you can. Complain to the manager, owner, and Acura corporate. They can't just lose a car. It went somewhere. Hold them accountable.

And for those saying the car arrived and they sold it to someone else..... unless Excited knows for sure the other cars are in, lets not jump to conclusions. I seriously doubt the cars came in, cause we'd have gotten ours first!

its actually a shame to see how flawed the car delivery system is. We can easily track packages down to the exact location they are in, what highway they're traveling down, which truck they're on etc. Regardless of the size and importance of a package, everything can be tracked. However, its confusing how car dealers don't know anything about when the cars are arriving and where they are in transit. I would assume a dealer contacts a manufacturer enough to know how many cars are being sent to their dealership and when it will arrive. My dealer is the same. Should come 1st week of december, should this, should that. I mean if I can track a small tiny box and know that its going to arrive on December 10th for example, how difficult can it be to track down an entire fleet of cars?
#34
When I first started in the car business (10 years ago), I thought the same thing. However, I now understand that when you send something via FedEx, they handle you package all the way. The cars change hands between three companies (boat, train, truck). FedEx has built their rep on tracking and on time delivery, and sadly the people that handle the cars are union workers that couldn't care less, if you or I get the car on any specific day.

Price reduction? Are you in Hawaii? If there's only one Acura dealership on that island that you are on, they probably wont care becuase if you want an Acura that's the only place to get it.
Also... i'm thinking they probably sold your car.
Did you have a deposit on it? If not... my money is betting that they sold it. The dealerships always want the quickest sale possible at no cost most of the time.

Hey Excited, just had to say I really feel for ya, and I think you should demand the color combo you wanted from the start, because I remember that in particular was what made you... Excited.
Don't let 'em take that away from you. Screw the money, stick to your side of the deal, but demand they stick to theirs and get you the car you ordered. And take it upstairs, that's damn good advice.
If it helps, my ordered-in-August, "in our very first shipment, probably here mid-November" '06 is now due Dec. 5, they tell me. Here outside of Boston it seems nobody's gotten any yet... and I'm still not holding my breath.
I guess the bright side for me is I put down my deposit but signed a form with "TBD" as the price and my trade-in value, so theoretically they won't trade my October 20 build for a better price, because they don't know what's better yet!
Ahh, the joys of car-buying...

i'd be mad if i put money down on a car and they "lost" it. Hey you guys still think I can haggle? The sales person is someone my dad knows which is kinda gay cause its hard to haggle btwn people you know. But at the same time, I feel like for the price im getting, i could go a bit extra and get a Navi with mine. I already have 1000 down though...

They new I was on vacation and had my winter wheels at their warehouse and my license personalized plate to put on the car so there was no mis communication about where I was and what I wanted.
I'm back on Friday and will be asking for a further explanation and I will be asking for information on my original order.
Over the past week I thought about getting a different car if they could not get the colour I wanted, but the TSX is the car I want. They have ordered a black one for me, but I go back and forth on whether black is what I want, white or just wait for the silver.
Friday's discussion will be interesting.
I leave Hawai tomorrow. The vacation has been great.
Colin, what's with all the scrap cars left along the side of the road in some locations.
Lots of white cars here. Surprised me how many 4X4 and SUV's are here.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
