Age and Cars???
while I was posting on matrixdudes thread I was thinking to myself... is there a car and age stereo type?
I was thinking about this because taking for example... my house has an E class Benz, and soon to be TSX... Now if my dad in his business suit and all, drives TSX to (he's 49 btw) work, and me in my cargo pants and a ripped t-shirt drives his E class to (im 20) a community college, does that not fit?
I mean its sorta strange in my opinon for much older people the drive to TSX, IMO if older men/women go through mid life crisis (if there is such a thing) then wouldn't they go nuts and grab the nearest porsche/bmw/ferrari from a dealer and have fun it in? But instead they pick a TSX? I know its also about the fresh new idea and all that kinda stuff, but do you also feel that there is a correlation to drivers and their cars? Not to flame older people, because older people know more and all, its just a plain question, so when I hit my 50's or how old and when I feel like buying a future car in this class, i will be sure on how I feel about that. =D

The TSX combines a certain set of attributes. If those are what you're looking for, it seems like the TSX is a good choice for you no matter what your age. Some of the older crowd think us young ones (I'm 22) should be driving something "younger". Oh well.
As for you driving an E-class to CC, yes, that's funny.

I do not find it odd to see a 20 year old driving an E-Class. Then again, it all depends on where you grew up. See, I grew up in SoCal, the #1 importer of Benzes (last I remember). So it wasn't so "odd" to see younger kids driving them...even at the local CC.
I think the TSX appeals to me (also a 20 something) because I always loved the JDM/DTM Accords, especially the Type R/Euro R. And the fact that Honda brought them over was a pretty nice gesture on their part. And I know many guys in my age group who felt the same way.

Definitely there are connections, and we can only guess at the reasons. I would say older people opt more and more for "comfort" and less and less for "excitement." And of course image plays into it, too. For whatever reasons, legitimate or not, certain cars seem to represent "established success," and Mercedes is among them. Others represent up-and-coming, or "striving," and I'd say Acura is in that ballpark although it also represents some of the that first thing. Regarding reasons that older people opt for what I said above, a couple of the reasons probably are:
(1) When you get older, you may have more aches and pains, and it becomes more important to be well-insulated from the bumps. This isn't discussed much, but if you have a bad back or whatever, a sporty ride can be truly painful.
(2) The more you get older, the more trouble you've seen, and the more aware you are of your own vulnerability, and the less you're interested in doing or enjoying aggressive things that might involve some risk.
I might try to get some college credit for this post......(j/k)

I drove a 94 Explorer, and still plan on keeping it even after i get my TSX. As far as youngins, i've seen 16-17 yr olds driving souped up RSX's, brand new BMW's, Benz's, and Audi's A6's. My question is, what are they're parents thinking.
Personnelly, being of the 23 age, everyone says i'd fit well with a TSX, and they couldn't see me in anything else.

Don't forget that Acura targets the 30 - 40 crowd with this car, no the 20 yr olds. On the old site there was a long thread on age and the TSX, if I remember correctly.... At any rate, I'll be 30 (gasp) next year and the TSX looks to be the perfect car. I'm ready to move up a bit from the Integra into something with a little more class and safety; one of the main reasons I'm getting one is so my soon-to-be-wife will be safer if we get in an accident. And one never knows if those other 2 drs will be useful in a couple of years.
All that being said, I think the TSX has appeal to a much broader audience than Acura's targeted marketing.
