Adding a rear foglight

What do you guys think about doing this mod? All it would take is getting the switch, reverse lense, and then wiring it up. I would like this mod for a few reasons, mainly safety.

Here is the rear fog (thanks Marcutam)

foglight

Can you explain the benefits of doing this? What does it do? How does it help in fog?

well it prevents you from getting rear end by someone under heavy fog. In Europe rear fog light is very useful.

Anyway i'm thinking about doing it, too! Just to fill in the blank button on the left side.

I think wouldn't it be easier if you just buy the left rear light cluster and then wire it to the switch

I mainly used the rear fogs in my volvo 240 to piss off people tailgating me. I used them in fog as well.

In Europe most cars that come with fogs include lights in the front and rear. The rear fog light is usually in the driver's rear light cluster and is the same color but brighter than the reat of the lights in the cluster. When you turn on the fogs both the front and rear fogs come on.
It is useful to have rear fogs although it's probably not a good idead to make it a white light.
When you come up on a car with rear fogs the fact that one of the lights is brighter than the rest makes you think they might have the brakes on and you slow down. You also might pick out the brighter light a little earlier than the rest.

That's why the rear Volvo fog lights are supposed to be assymetrical, so they are NOT confused with brake lights! Although in the 240-740 Volvo wired both sockets, only the LH one was supposed to have a bulb in it. I THINK that was because they make both RHD and LHD cars. Now they kill the RH socket in the US. (BMW, BTW, kills both sockets.)

I use my Volvo's windshield/headlight/rear wiper washers to the same effect. With 7 nozzles I can set up a virtual typhoon in my wake.

I save the rear fog light for ... the fog!

when i lived in europe... a lot of cars had the fog light on both sides of the car... they were never both on but you could select either side with a switch. the reason is that the fog light acted also as a parking light drawing a small amount of power and could therefore be left on at night on a narrow st (heavy fog night) so that approaching cars could see your parked car.
